Jieun POV
I woke up with an extremely stiff back. I threw the small blanket off and got up. I went to the bathroom and tidied myself up before leaving. I walked back to our house. I suddenly stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Baekhyun's parents come out of the house. Baekhyun was at the door talking to them. I covered myself with the blanket and walked away, to the coffee shop I usually went. I still wasn't comfortable with Baekhyun, let alone his parents.
I ordered a coffee and sat at the table furthest away from the window, just in case they drove past here. The waiter came with the coffee I ordered. She gave me a judging look, when she spotted my blanket in my lap. How embarrassing. I meekly smiled at her. As she left, I quickly sat on my blanket, to avoid anymore judging looks.
I felt around my pockets for my phone, but then remembered that I left it in the house. I quickly chugged down the warm coffee and mindlessly walked out of the shop.
Baekhyun POV
Jieun was nowhere to be seen as usual and she had left her phone in the living room. Suddenly the door bell rang. I suspected it was Jieun, but I was greeted by my parents instead.
"Baekhyun-ah! We brought some fruits for you and Jieun." my mom exclaimed.
"Uh..mum, dad, why are you guys here?" I asked.
"We wanted to visit you and to see how things are going with you two."
"We're fine.."
"Can we come in?"
"Uhmm....yea...sure..."
They changed into slippers before walking into the living room. I quickly threw my pillow and and blanket off the couch and straightened the cushions
"I'm going to leave the fruits here." my mom placed the bag on the coffee table.
"Where's Jieun?" my dad asked.
"Uh...." I didn't even know where on earth she was with her blanket. "She's with her friends....or something."
"So what are you doing alone here? I didn't restrict you from seeing Sora."
"We...kind of..broke up..."
"Well, I suppose this is going to be easier than I thought."
"Remember son, it's only a contract marriage, where you and Jieun only have to look like a married couple in front of our relatives and a few other important people. We aren't going to force you to do anything else."
I forcefully smiled in reply.
"Well, make sure you tell Jieun that we came by." my dad said as he got up.
"Yea."
I followed them to the door. Suddenly from the corner of my eye, I saw a figure draped in a familiar blanket. Jieun? About time she came back... I thought to myself.
"We might come again of we can." my mom said. "And remember to put the fruit in the fridge."
I nodded in reply. I watched them as they drove off, then looked around. Jieun was already gone, and she definitely wouldn't be coming back any time soon.
I went up to my room and shoved anything that was lying around in my way under my bed. I sat on my bed and tried to think through some things. It seemed that everything wasn't right. There was Sora. I still couldn't get through breaking up with her. I tried to shake off the image of Sora and Jaekyeong kissing. I haven't been talking to them ever since the party that night. And then there was Jieun. There is something definitely wrong with her. I have been trying to get along with her, but she just ignores and avoids me like some pest. I don't even remember doing anything ridiculous to her. We're not even close enough to do that, yet she looks at me like I've been harassing her or something.
Was she still mad at me from asking her to go outside during the wedding reception? She must have some sort of grudge against me. I laid back and closed my eyes, hoping things could be back to normal.
Jieun POV
I threw my blanket over the mailbox before going up the steps of my parents house. I rang the doorbell.
"Jieun? What brings you here?" my mum looked surprised.
"Am I forbidden here?" I asked jokingly. I followed her through the hallway. I didn't even know why I came here.
"No, no, of course not, you know I don't mean it like that."
"I just came out for a jog and...decided to stop by."
"Have you eaten breakfast yet?"
"Yea..." I wasn't hungry after the coffee I had.
"Well, do you want to wash up first?"
"Sure.." I replied before going upstairs to my room.
Jieun's mom POV
I waited for Jieun in the living room, anxiously hoping she didn't come here to ask me if she can back out this marriage contract. Ever since we forced her to go to Tokyo, almost a decade ago, I had been feeling bad. The moment Jieun knew she couldn't see her only friend, she started suffering from depression, which slowly led to her being traumatised and as a result, forgetting so many things. Instead of the happy, cheerful person, she became dull, inactive and was regularly sick. She didn't do well in her studies in Japan, and we couldn't do much help, no matter how much money we put into her education.
I talked to her father whether we should tell Jieun about her friend in Korea, hoping this might change her attitude, but he said it would only make her want to go back which would cause trouble to his current situation. I ended up keeping her only memories, a tin box of polaroids with me for the next eight years. Of course, me and Baekhyun's mother still kept contact and we regularly talked to each other. Together we made an opportunity for Jieun and Baekhyun to be back together.
"Mom, I'm done." Jieun's voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Oh, Jieun-ah, do you want to stay for lunch?"
"Okay."
***
"I'm going back home now." Jieun said, wiping her mouth with a napkin. I followed her to the door.
"Jieun-ah... are you okay?"
"What do you mean?"
"Are you doing okay with Baekhyun?"
"Mom...lets not talk about him...okay?"
"Remember, if you are ever feel like you can't stand it anymore, open the box I gave you."
"I know mom......I'm going then."
I watched as she walked off.
