Jieun POV
I had prepared dinner and texted Baekhyun. I made sure that there was no crustaceans or seafood of any sort. All I could do now was to wait for him to come back.
Baekhyun POV
"Do you think we can start all over again?" Sora suddenly asked.
I looked up from my phone. I wanted to go home. Yet I didn't know what to say to Sora. Should I ignore her? I didn't feel like answering her either. I noticed the dark rings around her eyes.
"You must be tired." I said instead.
She looked at me. Her face was drained of the usual bright colours
"You should go home and rest." I said after.
The lighting in the cafe made her eyes look sunken. She looked around before getting out of her seat.
"I didn't get rejected, right?" she looked down at me.
I looked at her quizzically. She smiled back and walked out of the cafe.
After a while, I got up and drove home. The house was quiet but the light in the dining room was on. Jieun was sleeping with her head on the table. The food was still steaming.
"Hey, Jieun-ah." I gently shook her her shoulder. "I'm home."
She stretched around before openeing her eyes.
"Oh Baekhyun." Jieun shot up when she saw me.
She looked around and rubbed her eyes. I sat across her, picked up my chopsticks and began eating.
Jieun POV
"Where did you go?" I asked.
"Uh..I had some family business."
"Are the dishes cold?"
"No, it's fine."
Why did this conversation turn so awkward? I thought to myself. I continued eating.
Baekhyun POV
I didn't know how to ask Jieun about the polaroid. It sounded weird if I just said: "Oh, Jieun, is this your polaroid? Is that you? And is that me? Do you still remember me? Were we childhood friends? Why did you leave for Tokyo? Are you Eun? I'm Sogogi."
Jieun cleaned up the dishes and I sat in the living room, probably looking stoned from my thoughts. I took out my wallet and slid out the polaroid. There was no way she wouldn't say anything to me if she recognized me. At least Eun wouldn't. This polaroid held precious memories for me and her. So did she forget about me? But now that I thought about it, this arranged marriage was too coincidental. Whose idea was it to get us married in the first place? Was it my parents or Jieun's parents?
Jieun's mom POV
The fact that I haven't told Jieun anything, was still bothering me. As the wife of the CEO, meant there was nothing to do. We even had housemaids to keep the house as it was. Jieun's father didn't want her to remember anything when we were in Tokyo. It must have been fate when I found out that Baekhyun was the son of a rich family, otherwise this marriage would not have been possible. Perhaps Baekhyun would realize something? Or was I thinking too much? I must be getting old. It would probably best for the two to find out themselves.
Jieun POV
I went back upstairs to my room after I cleaned the dishes. The job of being a 'wife' was boring. Since it was the summer break, there was no basketball, no lectures, and my friends never called me. I spun in the chair thinking of nothing. Absolutely nothing. I stopped and looked at the corner of my room, where the door was. Something was moving, and I had to focus my eyes to see what it was. A spider. I immediately jumped off my chair and grabbed whatever I could, near me, and began to swat the wall. There was always those moments when I would never be bothered to do anything, and then there were those times when I wouldn't even care if I broke my back, just to do something. Here I was, out of breath, chasing the spider.
Baekhyun POV
I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard strange sounds from upstairs. Was that Jieun? I decided to go and see. As I came up, I could see Jieun jumping around in her room hitting something.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Huh?" she stopped and asked breathlessly.
I raised my eyebrows and looked at the rolled up textbook in her hands.
"Oh there's just a spider up there."
"Just leave it alone."
"Yea, well it's bothering me and I won't be able to sleep."
"Why are you such a baby?"
"Why do you care?"
I was slightly taken aback. Why did I even care? Right, because I might be living with my long lost childhood friend and I'd never know.
"I'm an extreme environmentalist, so if you're going to kill the spider, I don't know what I'll do." I said.
Jieun gave me a look of disgust.
"Then why don't you catch it and put it in your room?"
"I prefer to not disturb it."
Then she began swatting it again. I looked at her. In a lot of unexplainable ways, she reminded me of Eun.
"Sleep in my room."
She looked at me and we held gazes.
