After an hour or so of driving it was completely dark, well, for New York City. Why I chose to live in this big city I don't know, it's so loud. Car horns beeping constantly, people's muffled voices, It's not somewhere I want to spend my life.
I keep driving, looking to find somewhere to sleep tonight that's quiet. Somewhere that's peaceful and me and Kaylee can sleep through out the night and not be bothered.
After another half an hour of driving I was running low on gas. I had exactly six miles to E, and all I see is a little town. I'm not sure where I am, or how far from town I am. It looks almost deserted but at least there's breathing people. Thankfully, I'm off for two days. I'll find a job somewhere close to here and quit Starbucks. It's almost midnight and Kaylee is asleep in her carseat. I see a sign reading Motel 8 and another one reading Holiday Inn, thank god theres a hotel in this little town. I didn't want to sleep in the car. I pull into Holiday Inn and take a deep breath, closing my eyes and searching around the parking lot. I counted the seven cars and immediately felt a little better, im not the only on here.
I pulled Kaylee out of the car when I parked and started into the double doors that opened to the lobby. The lady behind the counter gave me a welcoming smile and stood up from her chair.
"Welcome to Holiday Inn! How many?" She asks and I automatically envy her. She's tall, beautiful, and very bright. I can tell she's confident with herself because not a trace of makeup is on her face.
"Only us two," she smiles without a trace of judgement on her face. She can tell im a teenage mother. I'm only nineteen and I gave birth to Kaylee at seventeen. She begins to type of her computer and soon gives me my key.
"Don't hate me, but my boss wants me to put you in a room next to someone. There's only one more group staying at this hotel, but their in two separate rooms. They're right beside each other, but anyways the point is my boss wants me to put you in the room right beside them." Ugh. "Sorry, I don't want to get fired. This is all I got," she looks so sincere, how could I tell her no? I nod my head and she smiles.
"How long are you staying?" Crap, I don't know.
"I'm not sure," I laugh and she smiles.
"Just pay at the end of the week." I thank her and she hands me my room key and gives me directions to my room.
Level 2, Room 31
I wave goodbye to her and carry Kaylee outside, setting her in the passanger seat since all we're doing is driving to the other side of the tall, yellow building. She sits up and wipes her sleepy eyes, yawning.
"Mommy? Where are we?" She asks and trys to look out the front window but is too short. I park in the parking spot before answering.
"We're staying here for a while," I say and send a smile her way. She returns it and I see Keenan written all over her smile. It reminds me of his, she looks practically just like him. Blonde hair, blue eyes, tan skin, and even her laugh has a hint of his raspy voice.
I hit the button to open the trunk and climb out, telling Kaylee to stay there. I pull out the two bags, pulling the handles up and pushing the trunk closed.
After three trips to get bags and stuff out of the car I lay on the queen bed with Kaylee. She snuggles into my side and before I know it light snores fall from her tiny red lips, still coated with lipstick. I don't wear it anyways, she could've had it.
But that's when I hear a roar of laughter coming from the room beside me. Male laughter. Tonight is not the night to mess with me. I bang on the wall, immediately after hoping I didn't wake Kaylee. She needs to sleep, it's been a big day for the both of us. I hear a string of profanities towards me and I can practically feel my blood boiling. Look here, i'm not in the mood. They bust out in laughter and Kaylee shifts underneath me, blinking open her small blue eyes and yawning.
"Go back to sleep, baby. I'll be right back." I say and tuck the sheets in around her and head for the door, determined to make them shut up and my little girl to get some sleep. I keep the door open and stop at the door directly next to mine, bringing my hand up and banging on it.
"Open this damn door! Now!" I yell, mentally scolding myself because Kaylee can hear me. The door next to the one im banging on opens and I am met face-to-face with Zayn Freaking Malik. My eyes almost pop out of my head, remembering the pictures of him all around Katherines bedroom. He's dressed in only blue plaid pajama pants and his hair is sticking up everywhere.
"I'm sorry, they're being pretty loud in there." I nod and the door I was banging on opens, revealing the blonde one. His name, im not sure of, but I remember Zayn because he's all Katherine talks about.
"Could ya'll please shut the hell up? My daughter is trying to sleep in there! If you knew the hell we were put through today! If you have one decent bone in your body, you'll hush." His eyes almost popped out of his head. The one with the short brown hair appears behind him and hands him a beer, he opens it and chugs it down.
"I'm sorry, we'll be quiet." A deep, raspy, British voice says from behind the two boys standing in the doorway. That makes four, isn't there like five of them? He comes into view and I immediately know who he is, the one Kaylee 'likes.' Speaking of Kaylee, I hear her small voice behind me.
"Mommy?" She says and I turn around to find her standing outside the door, staring at the boys. Her eyebrows crinkle, then widen when she realizes who they are. "You found One Direction, mommy!" She booms, her blue eyes glistening. They all burst into laughter, and I can't hold back a laugh as she practically jumps up and down.
"Where's Harry?" She asks and begins searching for him when he comes out the door. She smiles and runs to him as he catches her in his arms and sets her on his hip.
"Hey cutie," he says and her cheeks blush.
"Hi," she replies simply and he presses a kiss to her cheek before setting her on the ground.
"I'm sorry for being so loud, we'll quiet down." The blonde one says and enters the room, shutting the door behind him; even though his friends are still out here. The one with the short brown hair pulls out a cigarette packet and puts one up to his mouth, lighting it before blowing out a puff of smoke. Before I was able to speak, Kaylee did as so.
"Hey! Those are bad for you!" She says and grabs the packet out of his pocket. He tries to grab it from her but she throws it over the railing. The remaining two begin to burst with laughter, but he looks pissed. My jaw drops slightly and watch as she crosses her arms over her chest, a smirk forming on her face. I have no idea whose jeans she inherited that from, but what can I say? I'm doing a good job.
"Walk down there and get my packet right now!" He screams and my eyes open with disapproval. Did he seriously just scream at my daughter? Hell to the naw!!
"What the hell-" I begin to say but Harry cuts in.
"Liam, calm down. She's only like three." Harry says but Kaylee shakes her head and holds up two fingers, struggling at first but eventually getting it.
"I'm two!" She puts her hands back on her hips and I smile. I'm doing great!
"Two," he corrects himself and smiles down at the little girl.
After they agree to quiet down, me and Kaylee go back into our room. It takes forever and a day to get her to calm down, she usually is asleep by now. But as the clock hits midnight she is still laughing at something on the T.V.
"Kaylee, bed time. Now!" I turn the television off and she pouts, crossing her arms and poking out her bottom lip. Don't give in, Alex. I point towards the bed and she stands up, stomping over to it and laying down, yawning.
"I'm not going to sleep," she says and I nod my head.
"Okay, Kaylee." I know she's tired, but she's just saying that because she's stubborn. She gets that from me, my mother, father, and I are all stubborn. That's why we don't talk much anymore.
Within minutes she snoring lightly, as I climb into the bed beside her; since it's the only one we have. My eyes are heavy and im tired, but my mind won't stop. It runs over thoughts of my parents, Keenan; even thought he's passed; and what the hell i'm going to do with my life.
