It was a warm Saturday night and the boys had just finished another Dungeons and Dragons campaign in Mike's basement.
Like usual there was an extra couple of slices of pepperoni pizza left in the cardboard box.
Dustin swung his backpack over his shoulder before asking the other three boys if they wanted the rest of the pizza in which they all declined in a rushed way.
He grabbed the pizza box and walked up the stairs from the basement. As he passed Mike's older sisters room he glanced inside the dim room that was only being lit by her lamp on her bedside table.
Dustin smiled as he saw Nancy sitting on her bed doing whatever homework she had to complete for Monday.

Dustin had alway kind of had a thing for Nancy no matter how rude she was to Mike and his friends sometimes. Dustin would occasionally talk about how Nancy had a stick up her butt even though he knew there was a whole different side to her.
Dustin walked up to her door and knocked a couple times. Nancy looked up from her piles of paper and furrowed her eyebrows at the boy standing in her door frame.

"What?" She sassed.

"Um, I- I was just wondering if you wanted the last couple of slices of pizza?" Dustin stuttered getting the feeling he had done something wrong by knocking on her door.

"Uh, yeah that's really sweet of you." Nancy hadn't realized that she had been studying for chemistry so much that she had skipped out on lunch and dinner today.
Dustin took an awkward step into Nancy's room and looked down awkwardly.
"You know you can come in right? I don't bite."

Dustin smiled at the comment before walking closer to the edge of the teenagers bed. He set the box down in front of her. "It's pepperoni."

"Thanks Dustin." Nancy smiled gratefully at the boy. "You can sit down for a minute if you'd like."

The curly haired boys took a seat on the end of Nancy's bed that was cluttered in papers.

"What are you studying for?"

"Chemistry."

"Chemistry is always interesting-"

"Dustin."

"Yeah." The curly haired boy looked over at the girl sitting on the opposite end of the bed.

"Why are you so nice to me when all I've been was mean to you and the other boys?"

"Well, I've known you for a while now and I know that you aren't a mean person. You're actually really cool. I mean maybe you don't hang out with us as much anymore and I know you're getting older but you're still a cool person and that's why I like you."

"Dustin you're making me feel guilty." Nancy sighed.

"About what?"

"Not being so nice to you guys, you're making me sound so extraordinary when really I'm not."

"But you are. And I don't know if I should say this but I need to get it off my chest." Dusting sucked in a deep breath. "I like you, like more than a friend and I have for awhile and I know I'm too young for you and you also have a boyfriend but I needed to let that go."

Nancy was speechless. "Dustin I-"

"I should go Nancy." Dustin half smiled. "Good luck with chemistry."

Before Nancy knew it the young curly haired boy was gone. She felt a bit better apologizing to Dustin but she couldn't help but think of the boy's confession to her. She almost couldn't believe it. She walked over to her window and smiled as Dustin left the driveway on his bike.

"Thanks Dustin."
