Request #7: Nancy X Dustin {Part 2}

It had been a few days since Nancy had last seen the curly haired toothless boy. And those few days were a mess of confusion for Nancy.

Nancy would sit in her room and think about the words that Dustin had said. Everything about how he liked her and how nice he was to her.
She shook the thought out of her head as she got out of the front seat of her dad's car.

"Bye, dad I'll see you later." She smiled before walking towards the big building surrounded by kids of all ages, in all different cliques. She adjusted the book bag that hung off her right shoulder and gripped it tightly.

"Nancy!" A voice called from behind her. She flipped around to see Steve Harrington, her boyfriend with a huge smile on his face.

"Hi Steve." Nancy smiled lightly as he grabbed her hand holding it gently.

"How are you this fine morning?" He asked.

"Um, I'm pretty good I guess."

"Is something wrong?" Steve was starting to worry that he might have done something.

"No, I- I'm fine." Nancy paused stopping in her tracks. "It's just that over the weekend one of Mike's friends kind of confessed that they have a crush on me and I- I'm not sure what to say."

"One of Mike's friends did what?" Steve exclaimed.

"Steve it's fine." Nancy's eyes went wide. "Dustin isn't going to steal me away from you."

"Oh, so the toothless kid wants to date you?"

"Steve!" Nancy let go of Steve's hand. "Be nice."

"Be nice?" He laughed bitterly. "He needs to be taught a lesson, you never go for a girl that's already taken."

"Steve I swear on my heart you go up and do anything to Dustin, we're through." For the first time in a while Nancy felt brave. "Dustin didn't do anything to you or to me so what's the problem?"

Steve shook his head and walked down the halls, fists clenched and jaw tight. As much as he knew his girlfriend was right, he was still extremely angry.
Steve came across the small group of boys all huddled around some new comic book that Nancy's brother mike had bought.

"Man this is so cool!" The toothless curly haired boy exclaimed as he held it up in front of his eyes. When Dustin lowered the comic he came face to face with Steve Harrington.

"Hey kid I heard about you and your little crush on my girlfriend." Steve spat.
Dustin's cheeks flushed a bright crimson colour as he looked away from the tall high school boy in front of him. "Look at me! You need to be taught a lesson for going after someone else's girlfriend."
Dustin was terrified at this point. He looked over at the faces of his friends who were in awe of the boy standing in front of their friend.

"Steve!" A female voice called from down the hall. Loud footsteps followed as Nancy emerged from the kids crowding the hall. "Get away from Dustin!"

"Oh so you're defending him now? Who's side are you on?" Steve asked.

"Just leave him alone." Nancy almost growled. "He did nothing! Now go, I'll talk with you later," she pointed at him to leave. This side of Nancy was intimidating so Steve obeyed his girlfriend and left with his head low.
Nancy turned to face Dustin who looked terrified and almost on the verge of tears.

"Are you okay? Did he do anything to you?" Nancy asked as her face softened.

"I- I'm fine," he replied.

"I'm so sorry about Steve, he can be kind of a jerk to people sometimes." Nancy pressed her lips into a line.

"It's fine, I kind of deserved it, he was right, I shouldn't have gone after somebody's girlfriend. I just needed to tell you so that I could move on."

"Steve was wrong, I appreciate the fact that you told me actually." Nancy smiled lightly at Dustin causing him to smile back. The loud bell rang and people began walking to their classes. "I should let you head to class, and I need to teach Steve a lesson of his own. I'll catch you around Dustin." She leaned in and kissed the boy on the cheek lightly before walking off in the direction that Steve went in leaving Dustin dazed and confused but with a cheeky smile on his face.

"How the hell am I supposed to move on now?" Dustin asked quietly before walking to his first class.
