Sophie's POV
It had been a long day for both of us. I was freezing cold, why did I have only this little swim suit on? The suns final rays were brushed over the oncoming darkness. Keefe and I walked in silence. I shivered constantly, there was no heat or fire anywhere! "You cold?" Keefe asked I wanted to say WELL WHAT DO YOU THINK, but between my chattering teeth all said was "Y-yes". I walked towards the rocks. "Wait here!" He called over his shoulder. I fell on my knees I tried regulating my body temperature but failed miserably so I chose curling my knees to my chest and rocking back and forth (Which actually didn't help at all). I couldn't see Keefe at all now or anything for that matter. The only light came from the moon which was blocked by all the trees. "FOSTER?!?" A voice that sounded like Keefe called. "O-over-Here! I called meekly. Keefe ran up to me, "I've been looking for you! Were you here the whole time?" He's freaking out. Keefe puts something soft around my shoulders, I love Elf towels! They are fuzzy and they never get wet! I snuggle into it as I get up. "Here Keefe" I hold out my hand which he takes in his. "I want to show you something" And with new found strength from the warmth I run with Keefe at my heels.
Keefe's POV
Foster grabbed my hand and ran deeper into the woods. I sure hope she knows where she's going and can see well enough that we don't run into any trees. We stumble around in the darkness. Finally Foster stops I see a clearing up ahead. "No peeking!" She calls and puts her hand over my eyes. I grumble about it which makes her laugh as she leads we in the direction of the clearing. "You can look now!" Foster removes her hand from my eyes and I look around. We're in a circular clearing surrounded by trees, I look up woah! You can see all the stars! Me and Foster sit at the base of a tree. She has her towel wrapped around her like a blanket but still looks cold. I put my towel around both of us and my arm around her back. She leans on my shoulder and closes her eyes. "Has it started yet?" she murmurs. "What?" she opens her eyes and looks up. It has she said, Her brown eyes with flecks of gold stare up in wonder. I peer up to. And she's right it's a wonder of its own. The stars in the sky twirled and danced twinkling in and out of shapes and sight. Then they began to spin in a circle faster then before. "When I was little" Foster said breaking the silence "I was worried that if I didn't cover my head stars would fall out of the sky and I would die! SOunds crazy huh?" "Hm" I said looking at her "Not at all" I replied and pulled her closer. "We consider it good luck if you catch a light stone before it hits the ground" "A light stone?" "Yeah" I answered light stones are rocks that were once made star light and turned into stone." "That's so cool think we will see one tonight?" The part I didn't tell her were there were many myths about light stones like if you caught one while your crush was close by they would end up liking you or your/them would get the guts to admit you like each other, and there was one about making a wish on them ans keeping it forever. Whatever it was I don't know why I didn't tell her but I just didn't. All of a sudden I saw something fall from the sky mFoster did to we both jumped and raced for it in the middle of the clearing, it was a black stone and it was falling so slowly one could say it was levitating. I could if I wanted to reached up and grabbed it, but the Keefster plays fair and waited till Foster could grab it. "3, 2, 1!" Foster said and on one we grabbed it at the same time. The stone was all black and shaped like a heart... I could feel my cheeks heating up, good thing it was dark so no one saw.
"Here" Foster said closing her eyes and concentrated, slowly a crack split the stone in jagged lines down the middle. "Woah" I breathed "You still remember how to do that!?" she smiled obviously pleased but trying to hide it. "I've been practicing but haven't gotten much better" We held up the stones in the light. each of us half a heart. "Foster" I said "Check it out!" "What?" "Look" I said practically jumping up and down, inside the rock!!! She peered inside. "That's so cool!". Inside the stone crystals grew, like a geo dark blue and when the light hit it just right and it sparkled... it made it look like a small sky with stars. "Keefe..." Foster said "Look" She held her half up to mine and let go. Her stone snapped against mine, "So now Fitz isn't the only one you have magnets with!" "Oh are cognate rings?" She twisted it around her thumb. Oh Fitz is gonna be jealous!
And I think I'll remember this moment forever my arm around Foster as she falls asleep on my shoulder, watching the stars, and are light stones on cords around are necks.
