Chapter 13: I knew you were trouble

Emi POV

Alex and I spent all day watching movies and messing around, until like 12am when her mom called and she had to go.

This morning I woke up to the sound of my cellphone ringing, and answered it half asleep without checking the caller ID.

“Hello?” I said groggily.

“Hey Em, did I wake you up?” a deep voice asked. Sebastian. I hadn’t talked to him since Monday… He hadn’t made an effort either, especially since he won’t even look at me at school. I wish he didn’t care about his Reputation so much.

“No… well yeah actually”

“Oh im sorry, I can call later if you…” I cut him off.

“No its fine, what’s up”

“Not much, I was wondering if you wanted to meet up later, like at 12am?”

“Umm… sure ill see you at…?”

“The huge jungle gym that’s like 5 blocks away from your house”

I laughed “I haven’t been there in forever but ok”

“Ok then see you soon babe”

“Bye Sebas, see you soon”

I got up half asleep and checked the time 11:00! I only had an hour! I quickly showered and got dressed, before running downstairs. I only had 10 minutes to get to the park! I grabbed an apple, saying hi and bye to my parents before grabbing my bike and riding to the jungle gym.

It was literally the biggest and tallest one I had seen, we used to play hide and seek in there all the time.

I arrived and got off texting Sebastian to see if he was already here.

To: The #1 Boyfriend

Hey im here where are you? :)

Att: Em <3

Three seconds he answered.

From: The #1 Boyfriend

Hiding from you ;) Come find me…if you can

Att: YOUR AMAZING BOYFRIEND.

I laughed out loud, screaming, “YOU’RE KIDDING ME!”  Then, climbed inside and all the way to the top.

“Where is he?” I asked myself out loud. Just then someone grabbed my ankle causing me to scream.

“OMG you scared me so bad Sebas!” I said. I slapped his arm playfully “Don’t do that!” He laughed really hard on the ground.

“Im…sorry….baby…” He said between laughs. Suddenly he smiled and pecked my lips.

“How was your week?” We say down next to each other. There was only a net preventing us from falling in any direction.

“Fine, I missed you though”

“Me too babe”

We talked for hours and hours laughing with each other until it was around 4pm.  It was going great. I had the most fun I had all week, he was a great distraction from all the drama going on everywhere. It was amazing and fun and he was caring and we did a lot of kissing but also talking. I ruined it all though.

My curiosity got the best of me again….

“Hey babe?” I asked, after a while of comfortable silence.

“Yeah darling?”  I sat up.

“Why can’t we go public?”

He hesitated. “Em we have been over this before…”

“I know Sebastian but wouldn’t you be curious?! I mean you keep telling me that you love me, yet you won’t talk to me at school or any place where people can see us and I don’t understand why!” I said standing up. He stood up beside me.

“Why must you be so difficult?!” He said frustrated.

“Why am I so difficult?! We have been keeping this a secret for four months now! Don’t you think I have a right to know why?!”

“YES you do ok?! But I cant tell you why?!”

“Why not!” I argued back. My voice softened “Don’t you trust me?”

“I…” 

I sighed, “That’s what I thought” I went to walk away but he stopped me.

“Where are you going?”

“Anywhere that isn’t here, you obviously care more about your reputation than me!”

“What?! Is that what you think?! Em that is NOT the reason why we can’t go public! I’m hiding for you not for me!”

“FOR ME?! How would this all be for me?! Let go of my wrist, im leaving, don’t call me Sebastian”

I got out of his grip and climbed down the jungle gym as fast as I could. I was down when I saw someone I never expected to see here. Sebastian was right behind me calling my name but I froze when I saw him. Jake Henry. He was one of Sebastian’s friends.  He seemed to have frozen too, that was until he saw Sebastian climb out of the Jungle gym.

“Sebastian?” He asked, clearly confused to see him with me.

“Jake? What are you doing here?”

“I could ask you the same thing”

“I…I was just searching for my dog” He lied.

“Inside the jungle gym?”

“yeah… he is a smart dog”

“Right…” I could tell he didn’t believe a word Sebastian had just said.

He turned to me “You’re… Emily right?”

“Yeah” I said quietly. I was so shy. He put two and two together and stopped Sebastian when he tried to walk away.

“So this is who your dating?” Sebastian didn’t answer.

“You’re lucky dude” he said smiling. “good one, but why are you sad Emily?”

“I…I…he…” I couldn’t make any sentences escape my throat. “I have to go” I said quickly. Then I ran. I ran as fast as I could, but sadly I didn’t think and I went in the direction opposite of my house. I didn’t stop until I found a small pond and I sat near the edge. I was breathless. I was still recovering my breath when I felt someone sit next to me.

“Hey…are you ok?” It was Jake, of course… he would come after me and not my boyfriend… ex boyfriend.

“Yeah im fine”

He sighed “don’t give me that crap your obviously not fine, what did that asshole do to you?”

“He didn’t tell anyone… we were a secret…”

He seemed to catch on fast. “Oh… you mean how he didn’t tell anyone about you and kept you a secret.”

I nodded. “Well, im not good at all this romantic stuff, or at giving advice either…” he chuckled lightly. “But I would not hide you. Your one of the prettiest girls I have seen”

I laughed “Don’t lie to me. I am so not pretty” I said looking at him.

“No honestly you are… number three on my list after Megan Fox and Beyoncé.” He winked at me. Making me laugh.

“You have a cute laugh” He said. I blushed.

“Thanks”

“No prob, now c’mon it’s going to get dark soon, I’m not letting you walk home alone”

“What a gentleman” I said laughing, when he held out his hand for me to stand up. We walked back to my house, laughing about random things he said. He wasn’t Sebastian though, and I knew he couldn’t replace him, but he was an amazing friend.
