I woke up to the feeling of two little paws on my cheek. Opening my eyes slowly I realised I was nose to nose with none other than Winnie. Smiling a little I sat up and gave her fur a gentle stroke before rolling out of bed to make my way to my bathroom. I grabbed my jeans and a sweater from my drawers before throwing my hair into a pony tail and putting on a little lip balm and mascara.
Abiding to my stomach's hungry request, I made my way to the kitchen and fed Winnie first before attending to my own needs. Grabbing out a random box of cereal I poured in the milk and began chomping away happily watching Winnie eating her breakfast. When I was finished I washed my bowl and spoon before hurriedly slipping on a pair of white converse as I scrambled to get my bag on the way to the door. The minute I stepped out of the lobby cold wind hit me and a chill went down my spine. Slightly clenching my jaw, I decided to make quick work of getting to school as I was running late and had no time to go back for my jacket.
Eyeing the school gates about one hundred meters away I made a mad dash for the entrance, weaving my way through the crowd in a hurried manner. I finally made it inside to my locker where I dumped my books and grabbed the ones I needed before heading to my homeroom.
"Good morning Aubrey." Mrs Green greeted me as I entered the classroom with a friendly smile.
She was an older woman on the plumper side, with light hazel eyes that were always warm and friendly. I gave her a polite smile back and took my seat at the back of the room as the other students filled in at the sound of the bell. We went through the usual routine of roll call before trying to fight our way to our next classes in the crowded corridor.
The day went pretty fast as usual and I made my way to my locker at the end of the day to get all my homework to fit into my backpack. Once my backpack was barely able to zip up I mustered up the courage to face the cold outside. I began my usual route home, taking a detour at the set of lights to the grocery store. The warmth of the store slowly defrosted my fingers as I browsed through the aisle until I found the few items I needed. I paid the cashier and made my way back out into the cold and was amazed to see a light sprinkle of snowflakes falling from the sky.
A cold wind whipped through my thin sweater and I shivered as I made my way back to the lights. More snow continued to fall as I waited and in a matter of minutes the ground was covered in a thin layer of beautiful snow. My teeth chattered and I tried to wrap my arms around myself the best I could with my school bag and groceries in my hand.
In the distance I could hear the roar of an engine as the same car from yesterday pulled up at the lights. Once again I tried to ignore the feeling of being watched as it took which felt like ages for the lights to change. As I began to cross when the signal came on I heard a loud ripping sound followed by a clunk and clenched my eyes shut, hoping it wasn't what I thought it was. Peaking my eyes open I dropped to the snow covered ground, shivering as I hurriedly picked up my spilt groceries. A loud honk startled me and I glared up at the shiny sports car in front of me when I realised it was them who had beeped me.
"Can you hurry the fuck up!" Came a rough and pissed sounding males voice.
"Can you not be such a dick?!" I fired back without thinking, cranky and getting colder by the second as I scooped up the mess into my arms and continued walking.
A car door slamming made me turn my head to see the driver of the vehicle getting out. The colour instantly draining from my face when I realised who it was. Hunter Steele, the school's bad boy and womanizer was stalking towards me with a very pissed off expression on his face.
"Who the hell do you think you're talking to like that little girl." he sneered down at me.
Rage instantly filled my blood at the way he spoke to me in sure a disgusting manner.
"Who the hell are you calling a little girl!" I glared up at his towering height over me.
I wasn't the tallest to begin with but Hunter was like a tree, a tree I did not want to mess with.
"Listen here little girl," he spat, putting great emphasis on the little girl part. "You will not speak to me like that, you understand? You're nothing but a little freak who is a loner."
"Go to hell asshole." I spat back at him before turning on my heel and running for my building.
As I was fleeing I heard a faint 'you'll regret this' but chose to ignore it as my lungs ached in protest from running in the cold. My heart was beating wildly as I slowly caught my breath while making my way to the safety of the elevator.
I went through my usual routine of feeding Winnie, showering, eating dinner, and doing my homework before watching some tv when I found I couldn't sleep well that night. My late night tv session I will surely regret in the morning I briefly thought as I drifted off to sleep in an uncomfortable position on my couch.
