I finished a few minutes later.
"Where's the gauze?" I asked. Jerome handed me some.
"I'm going to need help. Lift him up while I wrap it around him.
"Okay." Jerome said lifting him up. I wrapped the gauze around Mitch's stomach.
"Okay he's good." I said laying backwards. I sighed as I looked around the room.
"What's become of us?" Jason asked.
"I don't know..." I replied. "Scavangers willing to do anything for supplies." Jerome scoffed.
"Anything to save our friends is more like it." Jerome said. I felt tears pricking at my eyes. I crawled over to Jason and hugged him, catching him off gaurd.
"I love you so much Jason. I hope you know that." I whispered.
"I love you too babe." He said wrapping his arms around me. I drifted off to sleep.
CHAPTER 16: STARTING NOW
Ellie's P.O.V. (I think? Screw it. It's gonna be Ellie's i'm just a lazy fuck)
I woke up in a cold sweat. I rubbed my eyes and looked around in the dim light. I think everyone's asleep... wait Mitch!
"Mitch..?" I breathed out. I bit my lip and held still waiting for a response. I heard some shuffling and then a small groan. "Mitch?" I asked again.
"Hm?" I heard him mutter.
"Thank God." I breathed out crawling towards him. "Are you feeling okay?"
"Yeah fine, why?" He asked.
"Well you sounded like you were just in a lot of pain." I replied curling up next to him. He shifted and turned to face me.
"No worries. I'm fine." He said laughing a little. I saw the glint in his eyes and I smiled.
"Okay." I whispered hugging him. He let out a small yelp and I let go. "Oh my God! I'm sorry!" I said scooting away, but Mitch pulled me back. "Seriously. What happened?"
"I got shot, but i'm fine." Mitch replied. I scoffed.
"Shot?! But how? Why..." I tried to say something but there was too many questions floating around in my head.
"It's fine Ellie. I was just going back to the hospital and ran into a little trouble for the cure." He replied. My stomach lurched when I realized I never got the cure.
"Mitch where did you put the cure?" I asked starting to get up.
"I... I don't remember. Last thing I remember is... why were you passed out when I got here?" Mitch asked. I bit my lip and looked down at my wrist. I slid my shirt over my arm slowly.
"I fell off my horse and hit my head." I lied.
"Bull shit." Mitch retorted. "You're the best horse rider ever. Remember when you entered the roping compitition?"
~Flashback~
"Aw come on Ellie. I know you'll do good." Mitch said. I kicked at the ground.
"But what if I can't rope the cattle? I won't win the money to help pay for my rent." I said, playing with the hem of my shirt.
"Ellie. If you end up not being able to pay for rent, you can just come live with me. Even if you do win this. Best friends forever right?" Mitch asked. I grinned up at him.
