Rj brought Maine to the hospital. While waiting for the doctor, Nanay Marian, Maine's mom, and Rj, sat inside the cubicle of the emergency room where Maine was laying on one of the beds. Kuya Jose waited in the lounge.
"Kelan pa po yung lagnat nya?"
"Kahapon...tumaas nung gabi...."
Rj just looked at Nanay Marian.
"...sana sa center nalang natin dinala si Maine....di namin kaya dito sa ospital...." Nanay Marian said woefully.
"...ako na pong bahala..." Rj said.
Just then, Maine stirred and both Rj and Nanay Marian stood up. She complained of joint pains and was teary eyed. Nanay Marian comforted her while Rj spoke to the nurse.
"....patient's name?"
"Maine Mendoza"
"age?"
"21"
"relationship?"
"Huh?"
"Kaano-ano po kayo ng patient?"
"Ahh...ehh....boyf....boyfriend....."
"Okay....I'll take her vitals and someone will come to do bloodwork...." The nurse came by the bed and checked on Maine's blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
A few minutes later, another nurse came in and to draw some blood.
Maine looked at her Mom who was standing on the side of the bed. Rj stood at her head. He held her shoulder as the nurse did the procedure on her. She shut her eyes tight when she felt the cotton swab on her arm. Tears started flowing out from her eyes when she felt the needle prick her skin. She let out a big sigh when it was announced that the procedure was over. Absent-mindedly, Rj kissed her on the forehead.
The doctor arrived and diagnosed Maine with dengue fever. He recommended some medicines along with an IV and confinement.
Rj once again assured Nanay Marian that he would take care of the expenses by looking tenderly at her when the doctor recommended confinement.
When the nurse came back to attach an IV line to Maine's hand, Rj was once again by Maine's head but this time, he was bent down, distracting her from the sight of the needles.
"...style mo rin no..." Maine said as she looked at Rj.
"....gusto mo rin naman e...." He replied.
"...yabs! mayabang ka rin e....you didn't have to bring me here....."
"...ahh ganon?! sungs! ang sungit mo!....buti nalang may sakit ka...."
"bakit?"
He didn't wait for her answer. He gave her a peck on the lips as the nurse jabbed her hand with the needle.
