After they returned to the station, Marie was approached by Desmond Galloway who informed her that he found letter addressed to her on his shop's floor. It was then Ramirez started to rant about the Mad Pilgrim coming for them and now they'll be cursed too. Jones then said, "Ramirez, calm down will you! And for the last time, there's no curse and there's no Mad Pilgrim! Whoever killed Wilhelm Moss while he was painting the portrait was only pretending to be the ghost!"
"But what I don't understand is why Mr. Moss' killer would risk writing to us or why they would leave it in Mr. Galloway's shop instead of sending it to the station," Marie said while walking back and forth and bouncing Oliver so he wouldn't start crying in fear.
She then stopped, looked at Desmond and asked where the letter is now and the shop owner told her, "It's still in my shop and I did not even dare touch it! I mean this curse is just a kid's story, but hen again you'll never know."
Jones then scrunched his eyes and said, "Let's go check out the antique shop Marie and see what this madness is all about."
After they arrived at the shop, Marie and Jones started to look around until Marie found an envelope with Grim P.D. written on the front. She then picked it up and said, "Bingo! I found the envelope Desmond told us about!"
Jones also looked at it and said, "It's still sealed which is a good thing. This is a golden opportunity for us to find out more about the killer Marie. Let's head back to the lab and open it."
As soon as they left the shop and got back to the station where the environment was more sterile, Marie sat at her desk, with Jones watching her, and she opened up the envelope. Jones told her to be careful until the envelope was unsealed and the two officers started to read the note that Wilhelm's killer left for them. The note said, 'You should never have taken the case foolish mortals! Tonight I will break your bones and reap your souls!'
Ramirez also peeked over Marie's shoulder and read the note too and when he was done, his face dropped in fear and he shouted, "WE'RE DOOMED! You've got to do something about this Marie! I don't want the Pilgrim to take my soul! I'm too young to die!"
"Dude, you're 45 years old! Act more like an adult! And will you calm down already! Nothing's gonna happen to your soul! This is obviously a trick try and scare us away from the investigation. Which means we must be getting close to the killer," Jones deduced.
Marie then turned her chair and said, "You know, if we're lucky, the killer may have been careless and slimed up this letter again. I'll take a sample and see what Grace has to say about it."
"I don't know Marie, I really don't like where any of this is going. You should probably get away from that letter by getting rid of it. Also, there's a certain Renee Leland here to see you," Ramirez told the female officer and Jones got curious and wondered why Renee would see them and he decided they'll talk to her when they get the chance.
Soon, Marie collected a sample from the letter, but she saw that it looked different and saw that this one had little blue flakes in it. After sending it to the lab to be analyzed, Jones and Marie went to talk to Renee Leblanc and see what she wanted. Once they entered the interrogation room that she was in, Renee said, "Thanks for seeing me. I've been feeling so bad about not being able to help you more regarding Mr. Moss' death."
"And you found something new and unexpected that would help in our investigation right?" Jones asked with a bright smile.
Renee then broke out in a sweat and blushed and said, "Well, not exactly. I thought maybe I could invite you for a cup of coffee Inspector Jones; you know, as an apology."
Jones also started to sweat and said to the woman, "I'm sorry Ms. Leland, but Lieutenant Marie and I are busy investigating the death of an old man. I'm afraid this is not the time to be have coffee! Plus, I already have a girlfriend."
