Chapter 49: All The King's Horses-Part 2

While Jones and Marie were recapping what they know so far in the case, Ramirez approached Marie and told her that Tony Marconi, the gangster that gave Marie hell the first few months that she was in Grimsborough, made a statement from his cell. Marconi plans to make a deal with Marie and says that he has some info on King Khalid and why he came to Grimsborough during the mayoral election.

Getting skeptical by what they were hearing, the two officers both had the same thing in their minds and Jones said, "Sorry Ramirez, but I'm afraid that there's no way we're gonna cooperate with him."

Just then, Marie realized that any tip-off on their victim might be good fir their case and she told Jones what she was thinking. Jones let out a sigh of frustration and said, "All right, all right! But I'm gonna warn you girl, if his conditions for you are still crazy, then there's absolutely no way we're gonna cooperate with him! And while we're at it, let's also stop by City Hall cause we haven't spoken to the mayor yet and I'm pretty sure he's done talking to the press.

Before they could go to City Hall, Jones and Marie decided to talk to Marconi in his cell. Once they arrived at the prison, the two of them were greeted by a savory smell and they thought that someone's cooking something. As they were following the smell, it got stronger and stronger until the6 saw where it came from. The smell was actually Marconi and they saw that the inside looked like a kitchen bistro. Once Marconi saw the two officers, especially Marie, he smirked and approached them with a plate of pasta in his hand.

When he was close enough to Marie, Marconi said, "Well if it isn't my favorite top cop! You're just in time to try some of my cranberry bean pasta fagioli! Aren't you really lucky babe?"

Marie shook her head and started to say, "No thanks, I'm not that hun..." And before she could finish, a fork full of pasta was shoved in her mouth and she started to chew it savoring the dish and she thought, hot damn that's good!

However, Jones got infuriated and he exclaimed, "What the hell is going on here?! Is this a prison cell or a cooking class?! Who the hell did you bribe to get all this stuff Marconi?! Tell us!"

Marconi smirked and said, "I didn't bribe anybody, I can assure you that! So, have you thought about my little bargain? Do you really wanna know what I know about that Arabian king's true intentions?"

"It depends Tony! I suppose you must be having some requirements out of this," Jones said scrunching his eyes in a glare.

Marconi chuckled and then he said, "We'll, I would actually go for the simple things. For one, obviously, complete freedom and diplomatic immunity. Also a new house in Maple Heights with a jungle-themed man cave and a grotto."

Getting angry, Marie clutched the bars in her hands and exclaimed, "Are you fucking kidding me?! You dragged us all the over here to hear that nonsense! I'll find information on the king's aim on my own and you better remember that Marconi!"

Marconi smirked at the female officer and said, "Still as feisty as ever, but I take it you're not gonna bargain with me, huh? That's a bummer. But when you're ready to hear what I know about the king, you know where to find me. And something tells me you will be back to find out."

Jones smirked at the ex-gangster and said, "You seem to be a bit overconfident for someone who's bound to stay in prison for 20 years Tony. Aren't you afraid that some thug will beat up your pawns eventually?"

"Not really cause I have my tiny golden Eiffel Tower with me. It's my good luck charm to keep the devil at bay," Marconi said holding a small golden Eiffel Tower in his hand.

As soon as they exited the prison, Jones ground his teeth in fury and exclaimed, "Come back to him for help?! That guy should check the temperature in hell first! That was a complete waste of time!"
