Chapter 13: Bomb Alert on Grimsborough-Part 1

After they finished solving the Samuel Rye case, Jones and Marie decided to go to Cooper Park to enjoy a hot dog since it was a nice fall afternoon. When they got there, Marie sat on the bench and Jones went to the hot dog vendor to grab their lunches. Once he got back, he smiled and said, "It sure is a perfect day today." And Marie smiled back at him and agreed.

Just as Jones was about to give Marie her hot dog, a loud explosion went off and Jones grabbed Marie and they both hit the dirt just as particles of earth and embers landed near them. Once they looked up, they saw a bunch of people running away screaming. After they got up, Marie looked around and said, "Where the hell did that explosion come from?!"

Jones then looked at her with his soot blackened face and said, "I don't know, but it sounded like it came from the other side of the park. Let's check it out." And soon the two officers rushed off to investigate.

As soon as they got to the spot where the explosion happened, Jones and Marie saw a woman with brown hair ran up to them shouting for help. Jones told her to calm down and asked what happened. She then shuddered and said in a stuttering voice, "S-something exploded and t-two men were fighting and one of them j-just..."

"Stay right where you are ma'am and call 911! Me and my partner are with the police and we'll take a look at this mess," Marie told the woman and she nodded and started dialing.

As they started looking, Marie grimaced at the sight of their next victim and she saw his body was blown to pieces and she thought, did this guy step on a land mine? Marie then took out her phone and snapped a picture of a shoe print hoping she would compare it with other shoe prints. She then picked up a torn card and bagged it so she can put it back together back at the station. Before Marie and Jones left the park, she decided to talk to their witness first do she can explain to them what she saw.

When Marie asked her what her name was, the woman introduced herself as Harriet Meadows. Marie then asked, " Can you tell us what you saw before the explosion Ms. Meadows? And don't omit any details."

"Well, like I told you before, I saw two men fighting and then everything exploded! When I got up, the first on was running away and the o-other one was," Harriet explained but she then shuddered when she got to the part about the victim exploding.

Jones then asked her if she saw anything that can help them identify the second man and she said that it happened so fast but Harriet remembered that the man who ran away was wearing something with a camo pattern. Jones then smiled and said, "That's a good start so far! We may need to talk to you again later on Ms. Meadows. Where can we find you?"

"I work at Greene Banking on Main Street. Just ask for me at the front desk," Harriet said to the officers agreeing to talk to them later.
