Chapter 2

***Simone's POV***

"Why is your door wide opened?" Josh asked as we neared my house.

"That's weird." My palms started sweating.

We stepped inside.

There were two cops sitting on the couch.

This can't be good.

My mom emerged from the kitchen clutching two teacups.
"Here you go officers" Her voice, like her hands was shaking.

"Do you have any new information on the case." She asked. "Did you find the kil- Simone you're home!" She stopped in mid sentence. "Hey Josh. You guys go upstairs. I'll fix you a snack."

"But Mom...." I protested.
I am a part of this family as much as anyone else. I need to know what is going on too. The scar on my left hand shows that I am also affected.

"Go. Upstairs. Now " My mom glared at me. I took that as my cue to leave.

I hate when my mom glared at me. It was a sign of her at her wits end. I didn't want to make her more stressed than she already is.

"Sim." Josh sounded sympathetic. "Are you ok?"

"I'll be ok when my parents stop treating me like a child." I was getting furious.

Josh sat on my bed and looked at me worriedly.  "Everything will soon be back to normal."

"How can things get back to normal?!!! She's no longer here. She's dead." I screamed on top of my lungs.

I know he's trying to help but I need to let my anger out on someone. I feel like a part of me has died.

"Simone Judith Channer! " I was startled by my mom's voice. "Why are you behaving like that? "

"I just need answers Mom. I need to know something. Anything."

She walked over to my bed and sat beside Josh.

Josh looked nervous or maybe he was feeling awkward. My mom sat there for what seems like hours, staring at my rug. I hate seeing her like this.

"The cops said they are trying their best to find the driver of the black Sudan that killed Samantha." Tears rolled freely down her cheeks.

I went and knelt beside her .
"It will all be ok soon Mom. Am sure the police will figure this out."

Guilt ran all over my body. I knew that I am the reason why my sister is dead.

Ding!

"That's the microwave." My mom got up, wiping her tears. "I'll go finish making you guys a snack."  I almost forgot that Josh was still here. He has being so quiet and understanding.

Mom stopped and turned as she reached the doorway. She placed her hands on her hips and a smile appeared at the corners of her mouth. "Joshua." She looked at Josh.

"Yes mam?" he sat up straight as if someone just poked him with a pin.

"When are you finally going to grow a pair and take my daughter on a proper date?"

"Mom!" I could feel myself getting red from embarrassment. "Josh and I are just friends."

"Your father and I were just friends and looked what happened."

"Mom will you just leave please."

"Ok honey. I cant wait to attend you and Joshua's wedding."

She finally left and I locked the door behind her.

Josh was grinning from ear to ear.
"So Sim, darling......When are you going to pick your wedding dress and where are we going to spend our honeymoon?"

"Shut up Josh."

He kept that grin plastered on his face. "Oh Sim! I can't wait to start making those babies with you."

I hurled a pillow at his head. "Josh you're such a pig!"

"Well I guess we will be having some piglets then." He was laughing so hard till it sounded like he was having an asthma attack.

'I will only be making babies with Trey '
I thought and smiled to myself.

I'm so in love with him. His sexy lips. The way he walks. The way he calls my name with sophistication. The way he -

"So are you going?"

"Huh? Going where?" I wasn't even paying attention to Josh.

"The Valentine's day ball."

I've never been to any school function. I'm the antisocial type. And I hate wearing dresses. I'm more of a hoodie and jeans girl.

"You know I hate those events. I am not a Cinderella. I'm more of a little red riding hood."

Josh smirked.

"Besides I don't have a date to the dance anyway." I said thoughtfully.

"Since you don't have a boyfriend, I can take you." Josh joked.

I have a boyfriend. His name is Trey. And he looooves me.

Maybe I should just tell Josh about Trey right now and get it over with. After all he's my best friend. My only friend.

"Josh I have something to tell you." I don't know how he'll react.

"Yes finally! You are agreeing to be my wife. See? Your mom was right. I knew you would come around."

"J please stop joking. I'm trying to tell you that I have a bo-"

Beep. Beep. Beep

A text came in on Josh's phone.

He sat there staring down at his phone with a worried face.

"Josh is everything ok?" I was very concerned. It's the first time I'm seeing him looking sad.

"Yea. Everything's good. I have to go now. Ill see you at school tomorrow " he got up, kissed me on the cheek and left before I could protest.

That was weird.

I didn't want Josh to leave. I needed comforting. 
Trey.

I took out my phone and texted him.

Me: hey Trey. Miss me?

I waited for him to reply.
Three minutes......no reply.
Seven minutes.....no reply.

Where is he? Is he with another girl? Is he cheating? I know I shouldn't be dating an older guy.
Why am i being so paranoid?

Beep. Beep. Beep.

A text came in on my phone pulling me from my thoughts.

Trey: Simone of course I miss you. But can I  call u later?

Me: OK :(

What could possibly be keeping him so busy that he doesn't have time for his own girlfriend? He's not at work. Today is his day off.

I called Josh instead. I didn't want it to seem that I was bothering him, since he just left but he always know how to cheer me up.

The phone rang three times then his voicemail came in. I decided to leave a message.
"Hey Josh. Its Sim. I really need someone to talk to. Please call me back asap."

Was everyone ignoring me today?

I settled on my bed and decided to read a story on Wattpad.
Within a few minutes I was off to dreamland.
