I came home to find the man and woman fighting again. The woman was making dinner and chopping what seemed like onions rather fast. They were screening at each other so loud that you could hear it from outside. I walked in and they fell silent.
"Spending time at your friend's again?" The woman looked up at me smiling.
I nodded quietly and made my way into my room to think of how I was going to get the necklace from her to the old woman. They went back to fighting and I somehow fell asleep.
The next morning, I woke up and made my way to the old witch's house. I didn't want to hear more fighting. I was getting a headache daily.
I swung the door open to see the two owls. The little one flew up to me and cocked her head to one side. She seemed to be more interested in time than the mother was. I mimicked her moves as she continued to turn her head in different directions. Eventually, she did a one eighty.
"Ok. You win," I giggled. The owl hooed with delight.
"She seemed to have taken a liking to you," I heard the old woman's voice from behind.
I jumped a little. "Y-yeah, I guess she has."
"Well, I don't have a name for that one yet. A familiar usually takes a name from its master."
"But, I thought you were her master," I said skeptically.
"No, I'm her master," she pointed to the bigger owl.
"Can I name it?" I blurted out happily. "Even though I'm not a witch of course."
"I don't see why you can't," she said. "Choose a wise name, young one.
I looked into the owls eyes. I felt the connection form.
"Zeera..."I whispered slowly.
"A wonderful decision," the woman applauded. "Anywho," did you ever get that necklace?"
"Oh," I looked down. "I'm still working on it. It's hard to take something when it's being watched all day long."
I see," she said. "How about I make something to eat, chi-" she stopped. She seemed to be cut off by her own thoughts. "What is your name little one? I keep forgetting to ask."
"Frost," I giggled. "And dinner sounds great. Thank you."
