Winter break is usually a time for relaxation, family and lots of food. During this break, I usually caught up on my sleep, binge watched a couple of shows on Netflix, and do whatever work our teacher assigned for me to do. But mostly, I slept. This year, however, I barely got a wink of sleep. I was always busy whether it was with my family running around or if I was with Jayden. The latter was more than anything though.
The day after Christmas, my dad told me that he had booked me some tickets to go to New York and spend a few days up there for New Years and such. I will admit that I was surprised at first since my father didn't really like any of his children going anywhere that was far but I did take him up on the offer. He allowed me to bring anyone I wanted so I chose Jayden to come with me. Of course, my parents were still in the dark about our relationship but my father did know that we had grown close over the past couple of months. He figured that Jayden was my male best friend so he allowed me to take him to the city with me. When I first told my boyfriend, he was kind of reluctant to go. He told me that he thought he should stay home and continue working – plus he just didn't feel like being around all those people. I had to beg him for an hour just to get him to at least consider coming with me. After that, I just kept bugging him until he just gave in and decided to come with me. We had fun though.
We flew down there three days prior to New Year's Eve and we got set up in the fancy hotel near Times Square that my father had booked for us. Jayden seemed a bit skeptical about everything at first since he'd never been to New York before and the fact that he hated how expensive my lifestyle was. He didn't really talk as I made friends with some of the workers who was helping us nor did he really comment as I babbled on about the plans I had for us to do over the next couple of days. I could see that he was uncomfortable and seemed a bit out of place but I tried to get him out of it. While I did have trouble keeping in mind that he came from a totally different background than me, I did know how to make him feel comfortable.
The first night, I slept with him in his hotel bed and held him until he fell asleep. He was having trouble sleeping before I came in and lay down with him. Once I wrapped him up into my arms, he quickly fell asleep. I guessed that he didn't do too well in new environments but I was happy that my presence was comforting to him. I liked holding him though. He was so warm and felt so small when he curled up into me. But then again, I guess he was small on the inside. He wasn't exactly the mean, cruel person that most people make him out to be. Instead he was more gentle and kind. It just took a lot to actually bring it out in him. He had to trust you before he would open up.
The next day, I took him out around town and showed him some of my favorite places that I liked to visit when our family came down here. We went to Manhattan, Brooklyn, both of the Upper Sides, the Statue of Liberty and the new World Trade Center. It was a lot of walking and we didn't get back in the hotel until late. So, we ate a quick dinner before passing out on the blanket fort that we had made to watch a movie while we ate. I had woken up before he did the next morning and I will admit that I blushed deeply at the fact that I was laying on him. His arms were around me, his face pressed into my blonde hair. I tried hard not to move since I didn't want to wake him but I really had to use the bathroom. So, I wiggled lightly out of his grasp and tip toed to the bathroom. When I returned to the living room, he was awake. He was still laying down but he was rubbing at his eyes. "Good morning sleepy head," I told him as I laid down next him.
"Hi," he mumbled back. His bright green eyes looked to me as a ghost of a smile grazed his face. I returned the smile as I took in his weary expression and his messy curls. It wasn't long before he fell back asleep on me. I didn't mind though. Later that night, I was going to take him him to a Broadway show so it was better that he rested so he could be okay for the show. He did thoroughly enjoy the play I had chosen for us to see which was The Lion King since he'd ever even seen the movie before.
