Chapter 2 ~ Awakening
Slowly opening my eyes, I found myself to be surrounded by beautiful blue skies, stained with wisps of white. The sound of birdsongs made a smile form upon my lips, and watching their gracfulness as they soared through the skies, completely careless and oblivious of any activity below them. Sitting up from my horizontal position allowed me to notice that I was now sat in an open field of tall green grass, the border of the field encased by trees. Orange, red and pink hues were spilled over the horizon from the rising morning sun, casting soft blurred shadows of the trees across the bright green grass.
Getting to my feet, I noticed I was back in the white gown I descended from Heaven in, once again clean and not torn. My wings were outstretched, basking in the sunlight, also once again white, yet stained with the colours of the waking sun. I took a small step forward, my feet bare so I could feel the grass blades tickling my skin, but my tranquility and serenity was broken when I heard heart-wrenching screams echo out across the large expanse of land. In an instant, I was running towards the source, hoping to help in any way I could, but I skidded to a halt as I found a burning house, just on the other side of the barrier of trees. The figure of a young boy was slumpd against a downstairs window, unconscious as black smoke surrounded him. A small girl was at an upstairs window, hitting the window with little fists, tears pouring down her cheeks as her screams were silent as they met my ears. I started towards the house with determination, but I was abruptly pushed backwards, as if by an invisible wall around the house. I shoved at the wall, my teary eyes finding the girl once again, just to see her eyes meet my own, a striking resemblance between the colour of her eyes and my own hitting my roughly in the chest; it was me.
Black smoke continued to fill the house, and I fought even harder to get to the little girl and to the house, but my attempts were fruitless. The little girl continued to hit the glass, before her body slumped, making me release a loud cry in distress. Her hands slid down the glass, and I caught sight of a scar running down the centre of her palm, making me take a glance at my own right hand, my fingers tracing over the scar that I had gotten when I was a child before my death. That little girl was me. I had just seen my death.
I ran at the barrier even harder, loud sobs escaping my mouth as I fought to change the fate I had seen of myself and the little boy in the burning house before me. As my attempts continued, my head began to spin and my sight got blurrier, before everything went black as my body fell backwards into nothingness.
Bolting upright in my chair, I gripped the chair arms, my breathing heavy with panic, my face wet with my tears. I harshly swiped my tears away, my eyes quickly moving down to the palm of my hand and the white line that stretched from the base of my index finger across to the heel of my hand. Had that been my death? I had never been told anything of my death, even as much as I begged Angel Percy, he wouldn't tell me anything. But why was I getting dreams about it now? After all this time?
Inhaling shakily, I moved my eyes across to the man still sprawled across my sofa, my mind still unable to process how handsome he was. Uneasily pushing myself to my feet, I moved over to the sofa where I grabbed a blanket, laying it over the man's body, my eyes still tracing over his features; from his closed eyes, to his slightly crooked nose, to his finely curved lips and then across his golden skin, which was marred by multiple, minute white scars, none longer than an inch, yet they made me curious about this man and his past, what he'd been through.
After gently stroking his hair back from his face, I made my way upstairs and into the bathroom, where I threw my clothes off and climbed into the stunningly modern shower cubicle, separate from the lushious bath against the other wall. After staring at the controls for a couple minutes with confusion, I managed to figure it out, and showered quickly, washing my hair and body with some bottles already in the shower for me. Clambering back out of the shower, I dried myself and dug out some clean underwear, some black thermal leggings and an oversized flannel shirt before getting dressed. I managed to fight my hair into a wet ponytail, which, with pride, I decided didn't look too bad.
Returning back downstairs, I made my way over to the sofa, where I carefully perched on it beside the sleeping man, my hand hesitantly taking his, so I could take any pain I knew he would be feeling away. As soon as my hand touched his, sparks shot through my skin, making me gasp sharply. His eyes began to flicker subtly between his eyelids, his dark brows drawing together in a small frown. I took a deep breath and grasped his hand, a large jolt of sparks tingling up my arm, making my stomach flutter. I took away the majority of his pain before slowly beginning to remove my hand from his, instantly missing the intensity of the sparks I had gotten when I was holding his hand. I shook my head, deciding I was being stupid, and continued to retract my hand from his when his hand abruptly grasped mine again gently, making me gasp with shock.
"S-Sir?" I asked softly, my chest tightening with nerves. His eyes continued to flicker beneath his lids, before his eyes began to open, his brows furrowing even further. He groaned softly, his eyes flickering around the ceiling, not yet focusing on anything as his hand continued to hold my own. He scrunched his eyes up then re-opened them, his eyes finally finding my own.
The gold in his pools of green shone even brighter right now if even possible, almost drawing me in as his eyes held my own. His eyes scanning mine silently for a few moments, before his pupils dilated and a low growl escaped his chest.
"Mate," he murmured huskily. Whoa... what?!
