Chapter 3 ~ Destiny?
My brows furrowed as I stared at this handsome stranger, wondering what he meant by that word. Mate? He uneasily sat up, one hand cradling his side, his bold eyes watching my own constantly.
"Mate?" I asked with confusion, noticing abruptly that my hand was still in his, yet I think he was oblivious to the fact as he watched me with intrigue. His warm hand enveloped my own, and felt somewhat comforting despite not knowing him.
He smiled slightly, "you are my mate. My soul mate. Mates are two people destined to be together by the Moon Goddess herself, in theory two halves of one being."
"B-But..." I started, lost for words at how I could have a mate. "How are you sure?" My eyes flickered up to his, to find myself once again being dragged into their green depths.
"Your scent tells me that you're my mate, and the sparks from where our skin touches." I glanced down at my hand still in his, now paying closer attention to the sparks that shot through my hand and arm, electrifying my senses. "I don't want you to be scared of what I tell you next."
"Depends on what it is," I stated slowly, a soft furrow in my brows as I gazed at him in confusion.
"I am a werewolf, that's how I know that we're mates." His eyes watched mine intently as a breath got caught in my throat. I had heard of werewolves during my time up in Heaven, yet I had never seen one, nor met one. I had read about their traditions of packs, community and loyalty, and of their worship for the Moon Goddess, a force even higher than Heaven. I did not know how to perceive this news, whether it would mean he would hurt me or not.
"W-Will you hurt me?" I asked quietly as I moved away from him slowly.
He shook his head vehemently, "of course not! We don't hurt people for no reason, and I especially wouldn't hurt you, you're my mate. I would never forgive myself if I hurt you, even accidentally. Mates are to be cared for and cherished and kept away from any pain and danger, as I wish to do for you."
I released a small sigh of relief, "I'm sorry, I-I've never met a werewolf before."
He shot me a reassuring smile, "don't apologise, it's understandable. Just know you're safe with me, I would never hurt you." He tentatively lifted a hand and slid it to my cheek making an explosion of sparks erupt through my skin, leaving me light-headed.
"What's your name?" I murmured softly, entranced with the feeling he was sending through my body from his simple touch.
"Scott Romero," he replied with a smile, his name sending shivers down my spine. "And yours?"
"Nina Hudson," I smiled, a satisfied smile forming on my lips at his hand on my cheek gently stroking his thumb over my cheekbone.
"Beautiful name for an even more beautiful woman," he commented, making my stomach flutter happily, a feeling of which I had never experienced before. What was this man doing to me? Was it something to do with us being mates?
I blushed, a soft giggle escaping me abruptly, making his eyes glisten with adoration, a surprised chuckle erupting from his chest. My hand flew to my mouth with embarrassment, but he quickly captured it in his free hand, stopping me from doing so. "Please don't, I already love your giggles," he smiled, making me giggle even more.
"Why do I feel like I have known you for a long time?" I asked, already feeling so comfortable and settled with Scott.
He shrugged one shoulder, "it must be the mate bond, because I feel exactly the same way." He paused, glancing around my cabin as his hand fell from my cheek, leaving me feeling cold and wanting more of his touch. "Where am I?"
