When I opened the door, Thomas ran and leaped into my arms.

"Aunt Lucie!" he yelled.

"Hi, Thomas. Where's Nathaniel?"

"He's in the kitchen!"

Thomas scurried off into the kitchen, so I followed.

"Welcome home," Nathaniel greeted.

Nathaniel was making dinner, and Thomas was his helper.

I gently smiled and said, "I'm going to take a nap, so I'll eat later. Go ahead and enjoy yourselves."

I bolted out of the kitchen to avoid any questions. My head was throbbing, and all I wanted to do was to pass out.

I closed the door and leaped into bed.

KNOCK. KNOCK.

"Pouty, can I come in?"

What now?!

"Sure," I called out.

"Is everything all right?"

"Yes. I'm just exhausted, Nathaniel."

"If you get hungry, there's food on the table. Thomas and I are going to get ready for bed."

"Okay. Good night."

Nathaniel's footsteps were nearing me. He kissed my cheek, causing me to shiver.

"Good night," he said, leaving the room.

Why does all of this feel so wrong? I can't take this anymore.
