I might as well ask him.

"What are we?" I questioned.

My voice was shaky, and I trembled. When I spoke, it came out as a soft whisper.

"What?"

"What exactly are we?"

"Why are you asking so suddenly?"

"We're not in a relationship together, but you act like we are. So, what are we?"

"I... I don't know."

Well, that was disappointing.

"I thought so."

"What is this about?"

"You caress me, you hug me, and you kiss me like I belong to you."

"You do belong to me."

"It seems that way, but it's not official. I sound like I want something out of all of this, but I just want clarification."

"Let me put it this way, then. I can caress you, embrace you, and hold you without having to claim you as mine. I can kiss you without having to ask you for your permission. I can love you without having to put a label on our relationship. But if you really want it, though, I can tell everyone we know that you are my girlfriend, and that I am deeply in love with you. You belong to me, and I don't plan on letting you go."

I was in tears. I buried my face in his chest, hugging him tightly.

"Stop crying, Pouty. You're going to wake Thomas up."

Nathaniel escorted me to the bedroom. We got in bed, and I immediately snuggled beside him. He played with my hair until I fell asleep. Nearly passed out, I heard him whisper something.

"Good night, Lucie Oakly. I love you so much."

A smile appeared on my face, and I slept soundly.
