Chapter 9: The Truth

Chapter 9

(Peeta's POV)

I know why Rue's eyes turned dark blue. She is turning into a mutt. I didn't think that was possible. "Rue, I need to talk to you." I tell Rue. She follows me to the living room.

"When did this happen?" I ask her. She thinks for a while then says "Last week." How can she keep this for so long? "Why didn't you tell us?" "I didn't want anyone to panic, so I just left it alone." she explains. I nod to everything she says. I understand, it's a way of making people nervous and worried.

"Why am I a mutt?" Rue asks. I sigh. "Well I guess it's time to tell you." I said sitting down. I pat on the chair next to me so Rue can sit down. She does and I explain everything. About my hijack and president Snow. I see in her eyes that she is mad. Rue isn't the type to have anger, she usually understood once you give her a reason for your action. But this was different, and I kinda see a little bit of dark blue in her eyes.

Rue stands up with tears in her eyes and says "You kept this from us this whole time and you guys didn't say anything." then walks away. Her voice sounds really disappointed. My heart feels shattered after she said that. I feel awful. Rue probably hates me right now. Moments later I start crying.

Am I a horrible father? I probably am. I mean I kept secrets from them since they were born. Katniss walks into the living room and gives me a hug. "What's wrong?" she asks me. I cry into her shirt.

Haymitch leaves and Rory goes to bed. I'm still crying from the early talk with Rue. "Come on, let's go to bed." Katniss says. I nod. We change into our pajamas and went to bed. Once were settled in, I said "I told her." Katniss eyes widen. Then she starts crying.

This is bad, but we have to put feelings aside and save Anna. Hopefully we can all get on the same page.
