Chapter 17: Anger

Chapter 17

Previously: Rue found out about the Hunger Games, and loses it.

(Katniss's POV)

"I HATE YOU!!!" Rue yells at me and Peeta. I can't believe she said that. Who did this to her? Why is it that when problems are about to be solved, more problems come?

Anna and Rory pulls her upstairs to cool down. I turn towards Peeta and I see tears flowing down his cheeks. I give him a hug. What happened? What's going to happen? Seriously help, we don't have an answer. Everything is falling apart. Our family. Our love for each other. Our hope.

"Why is she doing that?" I ask Peeta. "In mutt mode you really don't know what is going on or what your saying." He explains. I nod understanding. I trust whatever Peeta says when it comes to this 'mutt mode' stuff. Actually I think he's right, back in District 13, Peeta attacked me without even knowing. Thinking of it sends shiver down my spine. I can't stand the thought of that happening to Rue.

Anna and Rory come back and their clothes are a little torn up. The looked like they tried to give a cat a bath. Or a mutt.

"What happened?" Peeta asks. "Rue. She attacked us." Anna answers. "I guess her mutt mode is deadly." Peeta says. "Her what?" Anna asks. We then explain to her all about it. I forgot we never told Anna after she came back
from the Capitol.

To bad she had to find out this way.

We then remembered the knife wedged in the wall when Rue threw it. Nice aim by the way. She got that from me. I notice that the knife looked familiar. Almost as if I've seen it before like during the......oh no. I then see it, the Capitol symbol on the bottom of the knife. How did she get that?

Peeta takes the knife out and sees the symbol. It's officially a knife from the Hunger Games, he then comforts me with a hug whispering soothing words in my ear.

Hours later Rue comes downstairs. She still looks furious at me and Peeta. To be honest, I'm scared. Not of Rue, but by her emotions and her 'mutt mode'. We all then have a Mellark family talk. It's time to just clear the air, and solve some problems.

Or at least try to.

Rue sits on a chair across from us still with a mad look on her face. I wonder what she is thinking about. Probably figuring out ways to kill us. I don't blame her. Me and Peeta kinda threw our kids into this mess with us.

"When were you planning on telling us?" She asks. I ask her "About what?" Rue stares at me in the eyes. I've never seen her this mad. No that's not the word. Angry....no.....furious, that's the word.

"The Hunger Games." she answers. "I don't know." Peeta says. We honestly didn't know when was a good time to tell her.

"How can we-" I start but I cut myself off. Rue looks at me. "nevermind." I finish. Her eyes squint. "What?" Rue asks with attitude.

"How can we get you to stop being mad at us?" I ask. Rue thinks about it. I look at Peeta and he still looks upset from earlier. We just want to put this behind us, but I know Rue won't let it go.

Finally Rue asks Peeta "Can you change into your mutt mode?" Both our eyes widen. "No." Peeta says. Rue gets up and walks away.

"WAIT!" I say. Rue looks at me and I ask "What happened at the Capitol?" She sighs. "I didn't go to the Capitol, Gale kidnapped me." Rue leaves.

The house is dead silent.

Gale Hawthorne must die.
