Chapter 19: Vs

Chapter 19

(Rue's POV)

I guess it's up to me. If I don't do anything soon, Dad will kill us all. It's hard to believe that this was kind of my fault. Man I'm stubborn. I didn't expect this to happen.

Rory is beaten and Anna just went through a table and is unconscious. I'm so getting grounded after this. "Dad!" I yell. He turns around with his dark blue eyes. I then get an idea. It was stupid, but it might actually work.

I try getting angry and then I feel the rage rushing through my veins. My mutt mode is coming. I look in the mirror and my eyes finally turned dark blue. Ever heard that expression "fight fire with fire"? Well moments like this is when it's useful.

It's not like I had a choice anyways. It was either let us all get killed by my mistake, or fight someone in 'mutt mode'. Easiest decision I ever made.

We charge at each other and I take the first punch. My fist slams into the left side of his jaw then he slaps me across the face. He is just making me angrier. Then I punch him in the stomach and when he bends down, I grab his hair and knee him in the face. Mutt mode makes you much more stronger. That's one good thing. I also like the fact that I'm "special" for having it, instead of Rory and Anna.

Dad eventually gets up and tackles me to the ground. He takes one good punch to my face but I dodge his second punch. I kick him off of me.

Then I remembered that there is a rope in the kitchen. If I can get to it, I just have to tie him up and hope the 'mutt mode' just wears off. Not the greatest idea in the world, but telling Dad to go into mutt mode wasn't the greatest idea either.

When I grab the rope, dad grabs a 6 inch knife. Mom uses it to skin the animals she hunts. It's very sharp.

The odds are always against me huh? I charge at him and he stabs me in the leg with the knife. I scream in pain. Then he kicks the knife further into my leg.

I grab a chair and smash it on his head. He looks dizzy. Now is my chance. I grab both his wrists and tie him around a pole. He struggles to get out but doesn't succeed. Moments later, he blacks out.

I slide down the wall in exhaustion, staring at the knife in my leg. Looking around the house, Rory is out, Dad is tied up, and Anna is broken in half.

How am I going to get out of this situation?

(Katniss's POV)

I'm walking back home from the woods. In my right hand, I carry my silver bow that shows your reflection. And in my left hand I carry rabbits for Peeta to cook.

I wonder what he's doing. He's probably watching T.V. with the kids. Well Anna and Rory. Rue is still mad at us. I feel bad, because I really didn't think about our children. It's all my fault. And I take full responsibility.

It wasn't long before I took a few steps in front of my house. I haven't seen my family all day and I can't wait to see them. But I was stunned to see the house a mess, and that's when I see everybody beaten.

Anna is unconscious, Rory is bruised, Peeta is tied up, and Rue has a knife wedge in her leg. Did somebody lose a game or something? I was only gone for like 2 hours.

"Mom?" Rue asks in a painful voice. I run to her side, dropping my bow and the rabbits outside. "Rue, what happened?" I ask her. She sighs "Dad turned into a mutt and he couldn't control it so he attacked us." Rue explains. She tells me the rest of the story and I can't believe Peeta did all this. We agreed not to show them, ever.

Although, I'm not mad. Rue has been putting pressure on us about the 'mutt mode'. So if that's what she wanted, that's what she gets.

"Well we need to get that knife out of your leg." I tell her. "NO!" She yells. My eyes widen. "Please, don't. It's deep and it will hurt really bad." She explains. I nod. Rue's right it will probably kill her. I'm just not thinking right now. Everything is just going so wrong. I help her stand up and she winces in pain. "Sorry." I immediately say. "Don't worry." Rue reassures me.

My eyes fall on Anna. "What happened to Anna?" I ask. "Dad slammed her face on the wall and slammed her body on the table." Rue says. Anna is so small, I know she's going to need to go to the hospital. There's no way Anna could get up be "fine" from that.

We walk towards Rory's body. "What happened to him?" I ask looking really close at Rory's bruises. "They fought and Dad threw him down the stairs." Rue explains. It's no shocker to me when I hear Rory is strong. Me and Peeta predicted he would have great strength.

"What happened to you?" I ask her. The pain is visible in Rue's eyes. I would probably cry if I had a knife in my leg. I mean I did get my arm cut open by Joanna Mason. She sighs. "I turned into a mutt and we fought. When we charged at each other, he stabbed me in the leg." She tells me. Peeta is dangerous that's why I told Rue no. When will she realize that we do everything and make every decision for them?

I help her sit down in a chair. We can't put to much pressure on that wound. I should have been here with them. Come on Katniss, can't you do anything right? First Gale, second lies, now mutt mode.

Peeta wakes up and Rue looks up at him angrily. He looks at his wrist with a confused face. "Why am I tied up? What happened?" Peeta asks.

"Which one do you want me to answer first?" Rue asks harshly. Peeta looks at her and sees the knife in her leg. "Rue, I'm so sorry. What happened?" He asks her. "You slammed Anna on the table, threw Rory down the stairs, and stabbed me in the leg. Oh and we also fought." Rue explains to him with a fake smile.

"See this is why I told you 'no'. I didn't want you guys to get hurt." Peeta tells her. Rue nods. "Really? If you knew your were going to hurt us why didn't you just stop yourself?" Rue asks. She did have a good point I'll give her that.

"Because it's not easy to control it. Now that we got that out of the way, UNTIE ME!!!" He yells. Rue limps towards him. "Okay but I tied you up so fast, so this could take a while." She warns him.

Sure enough, Rue was right. And after about 10 to 15 minutes later, she finally unties him.
