I looked down at the little boy in my arms, smiling at him, rubbing his cheek with my index finger.
There was a small knock on the door.
''Come in...'' I said, looking up at the door.
Soon after the door opened, and Ashton came in, a paper bag in his hand.
''I brought you some food. The nurses got contact to James. He's on his way.'' He said, as he sat down on the chair beside the bed, and put the bag on the table.
''Speaking of James. When are you going to tell him, that it actually isn't his, but my son?'' He then asked, making me let out a sigh.
''I don't know if I'll ever tell him. I don't want him to get mad at me. He doesn't have much time left anyway...'' I said, looking down at the little boy.
''What do you mean?'' Ashton asked, even though he probably already knew what I meant.
''James has cancer. He's going to die in five months at the latest... He's probably gonna pass away in three, because he never takes his medication, unless I force him.'' I said, as tears filled my eyes.
''I'm so sorry.'' Ashton said, clearly regretting that he asked.
I looked down at my little son, kissing his forehead lightly.
''It's not your fault.'' I replied, wiping my eyes, and looking at Ashton.
''So... How's things going between you and... Cammy?'' I asked, only remembering that her name started with c.
''Carly. And we broke up about two months after we met you at the store. She kept on saying you were fat, and that you just used being pregnant as an excuse, because male pregnancy wasn't normal.'' He said, makin me look down.
''Oh. I'm sorry.'' I mumbled, looking at the little boy in my arms.
''It's okay. I didn't really like that much anyway. I mostly got with her, to try and get over you.'' He admitted, making me look up at him.
I sighed deeply, looking at him, something in me just wanting to kiss him.
And I would've if there wasn't a knock on the door right then.
''Come in.'' I said, and the door opened, revealing a worried looking James, who rushed over to the bed.
''I'm so sorry baby. I forgot my phone at the office, and we were out having a goodbye party. No alcohol I promise. And th- Oh my god he's so cute...'' James said, completely forgetting his excuse, as he looked down at the little boy in my arms.
I smiled softly at him, seeing how uncomfortable Ashton looked in the corner of my eye.
James leaned down and kissed me on the lips for a few seconds, and I heard Ashton let out an annoyed sigh, making me pull back, and hint to James that we weren't alone in the room.
''Where are my manners. I'm James. Luke's husband. And you are?'' James asked, stretching his hand towards Ashton.
''I'm Ashton. I was in the army with Luke.'' Ashton replied, grabbing James' hand, and giving it a firm shake.
''I should get going. Eat the food before it goes cold Luke.'' Ashton said, hugging me quickly, where he also kissed my cheek, unnoticeable to James.
He smiled down at the little boy in my arms, before he was out the door.
''I don't like him.'' James said, as soon as the door closed.
''What do you mean?'' I asked, turning my head to look at him.
''I don't know. He just gives off a bad vibe. And he's ugly.'' James said, and I was about to say that then the baby in my arms, was ugly to, but I kept my mouth shut.
