Monday, September 11th. The first day of extra training for the bitten. I sat outside on the balcony, waiting for them to arrive. It was 3:40. Jared, Angela, and Steven arrived right then, already dressed in their workout attire. They really wanted to play on Friday. Selena arrived a couple minutes later, still making it before 3:45 and Nadia strolled in at about 4:00.
"Nice of you to join us." I said as she sat down.
"I want to have more time with the people I love, you know, before I get decapitated." She replied.
"Such the optimist." Steven said.
"For today's training, you're just gonna pair up in comparison to strength and fight each other." I said,
"Jared, you train with me."
They split up into pairs, Steven with Angela and Selena with Nadia.
"Just fight until you hold your opponent down for more than 10 seconds." I said and they were off.
I sized up Jared as he stood across from me in his fighting stance. He was 6'7 and pretty lean. Now with hybrid strength, he was actual competition; if I was a normal hybrid that is.
"I won't turn, but feel free to turn if you want." I said to him. He smiled at that,
"It's never a good thing to underestimate an opponent." He said.
"I'll take my chances." I said with a wink. He turned and ran full speed at me. He swung at me and I easily deflected it and punched him in the gut. He bent down in pain and I wrapped my arms around his torso and lifted him, throwing him behind me. I heard a thud and I turned around to see him groaning and holding his back. I helped him up and he shook it off.
"Again." I said,
"Make it a challenge this time."
He clenched his jaw and walked back to his original position. He turned and attacked again. I took him down swiftly and he walked back to his original position. About 10 tries later, he looked completely defeated.
"I'm not as strong as you think Aidan." He said,
"Usually, I'm the best on the court or the field, but this just sucks. Why did you even pair me up with you?" He said.
"Jared, you're one of the strongest humans I have ever met." I said,
"That's why you were top of my list for turning. I mean strong not only physically, but mentally as well. If you were a true born, you would have been one of the greatest to ever live. Don't let a little setback destroy that." I gave him a wink and he nodded and went back to his original position.
He turned and attacked once again. This time he jumped into the air and did that super cool karate kick, I don't know what it's called. Like when you tuck one leg into your inner thigh and fully extend the other one. Yeah, that kick. I was surprised that he was capable of it and barely dodged the strike. I ducked under him and ran to the other side but felt hands wrap around my neck and I got yanked back and slammed into the ground. He had somehow managed to flip over and stop all his momentum by grabbing my neck. He sat on my chest and held me down as I was choking.
"...9 and 10!" He said, getting up.
"Oh wow, the alpha has been taken down by the newbie." Hannah said,
"How can I even call you my brother."
I got up and brushed myself off. The others had come back from school now and they had seen Jared take me down. He stood tall and proud and even started bragging. I smiled and walked into the house to get a bag of blood. I was happy for him, his confidence was up. Now he needed to get stronger and stronger and he could be one of the best.
