Depression is like a switch...
Turned on by those who bring us down,
and turned off by those who try to help us.
But people don't realize how hard it can be to turn that switch off
And how easy it is to turn it on.
You can go from happy to sad with in seconds,
And sometimes you can't be happy again.
The smallest thing can haunt you forever,
and make you feel horrible for hours, days, or even years.
People tell you they didn't mean it,
or that they didn't mean to hurt you.
But as soon as you believe them,
They go and hurt you again...
You tell them over and over again,
Yet they continue to apologize and not realize they are killing you.
You cry, and they think you are fine.
They can't see the blood and tears through the screen of a phone,
and you lie and say you're okay.
You mask you sorrow with a smile,
and try your best to make it through the day.
Everyone else sees you and flips that little switch,
And your smile starts to fade.
Until at the end of the day,
You're all alone.
And all you can do is cry,
knowing that no one is going to be there to turn the switch off.
So you keep crying,
Until you are asleep and you have to restart in the morning.
With the same fake smile,
and the switch still on...
