Sarah Ruth and Corey looked past that little incident. But that doesn't mean what happened has completely left their minds. Ever since then, Sarah Ruth has been thinking about how you're supposed to know when it's the right time to give your self to someone. She doesn't want to make the same mistake Corey did, not just give it up to anyone. Someone who will still be by her side the rest of her life, no one time thing. No one night stand.
Her elective class has just changed from art to health, which doesn't tickle her fancy. At first, they talk about the brain, then work their way down. Sarah Ruth sits in the back corner, trying to make her self seem even more invisible. Yeah, her confidence has boosted, but that doesn't mean she wants to be called on when she doesn't know the answer.
Corey walks in, completely surprising her, before taking a seat right next to her. She smiles and leans across her desk closer to him, "Why didn't you tell me you had health?" Corey pecks her lips and shrugs his shoulders, "I completely forget we were switching today." She giggles and sits back down in her seat. A red headed girl, in front of Corey, turns around and bats her eye lashes at him. "Hey stud," she says. Grease comes to mind.
He blinks at her, and ginger only giggles. "Aren't you Corey Haim?" He nods, then side eyes Sarah Ruth. Wanting desperately for her to say something. "You know," ginger turns around in her seat completely before continuing, "they talk about sex in here. Do you ever think about sex?" Sarah Ruth coughs, grabbing the ginger's attention. "Yes, he thinks about sex because he's human. No turn around," Sarah Ruth growls.
"Make me," she says back. Sarah Ruth picks up her binder from her seat and throws it at the girl, hitting her square in the face. Corey gasps, but soon covers his mouth with the back of his hand, quieting the laughs slipping away. Ginger finally turned around, not wanting another book in the face. "Thanks," Sarah Ruth mumbles. "You're feisty," Corey says to her, Sarah Ruth's cheeks tinting red.
The bell rings and mrs. June walks to the front of the classroom, a smile on her face. "The administration says we run out of time to talk about your body's, as in the sexual stuff, so this time we're going to start from the end. If that makes sense. Today the topic is-" mrs. June was cut off by the ring of her phone. Corey turns to Sarah Ruth, seeing how wide her eyes are.
"This isn't realistic," she mutters. He tilts his head, "What do you mean?" Sarah Ruth slightly jumps at his voice, their eyes meet. "Nothing," she says back with a smile, thinking she said this isn't realistic in her head.
"Okay, sorry guys. Brenlee Smith, that call was for you. Go to the front office."
"Alright, as I was saying. We're going to be talking about abstinence. Can any one tell me what that means?" Everyone in the room seems to glance at one another, not knowing the answer. "Can anyone at least take a guess?" The ginger girl raises her hand, "Is it some type of STD?"
Small laughs circle around the classroom. "No, but that's a good guess. Anyone else?" No body raises their hand. The teacher sighs, then writes the word on the chalk board in messy hand writing. "Abstinence means many things. But in this case it is going to mean waiting for marriage to have sex." Sarah Ruth lays her head down on the desk, not looking forward to their discussion. "Can anyone maybe say why this is a good idea?" Mike, a nerdy short kid with more freckles than you could count in a life time, raises his hand.
"To prevent any type of STD." Mrs. June nods her head in approval, "Exactly. Or someone may be doing it for religious reasons." She hands out a pan flit to the class, on the cover it says abstinence in big pink letters. "Follow along in the pan flit, please." All the students open up to the first page, following along with mrs. June. Once she was done, everyone was a little bit off. Mostly the ones who weren't virgins.
One boy raises his hand, Jake. He can't ever keep his mouth shut, everything he thinks has to be said. "But what if she has huge boobs, or butt. Boys can't really help them selves." The whole class laughs. Sarah Ruth scoffs, "Yes they can." Ginger turns to her, "Easy for you to say." Directing her eyes to Sarah Ruth's chest. A lot of laughs sound through out the room, "Yeah, but at least I have eyebrows." Ginger turns around in her seat, deciding not to push the argument further.
The bell rings, and at least half the class sighs in relief. "That was horrid," Sarah Ruth says to Corey while they walk their lockers. "Could have been worse," Corey tries to brighten things up. "Yeah, how?" "Well, mrs. June could have been showing us pictures of body parts." Sarah Ruth makes a disgusted face, playfully of course. "What do you think about abstinence?" Her head whips around to the person standing on the other side of her.
Missy.
"What?" "Abstinence, ya know. I heard the topic as I passed the classroom. Do you agree with it?" Sarah Ruth scrunches up her eyebrows, "I don't know." Missy giggles, throwing her head back as she follows he two down the hallway. "Come on, be honest. Don't lie just because Corey is right there."
Sarah Ruth can feel her face practically draining of color. "Why should I tell you?" Missy shrugs her shoulders, "You have nothing to lose. Oh, well, besides your virginity." "Okay, that's enough. Leave Missy," Corey says, stepping in front of her. "You're going to have a boring relationship with that one,"
Missy whispers, getting close to his face. She walks off. Rage is literally pulsing through out Sarah Ruth. "One more class, you can make it," Corey says with a reassuring smile. "I hate her," Sarah Ruth mumbles before stomping to her next class. "One day soon, I'm going to slap her!" Sarah Ruth yells to Corey from down the hallway. And he smiles like an idiot at her comment.
