"Well, maybe it's just easier if I tell you how I ended up here. It's hard for me to admit this, but I wouldn't be here if it weren't for Jasper and Jarin." Asher said, earning a shocked look from Ryan. He sighed and relaxed against the vampire's chest. "Most dark and light creatures are born the traditional way. You know, the birds and the bees and all. Very rarely, they're born through a different method. When an entire nation is in agony, their misery and desperation can give birth to a supernatural being.
The very first time it had ever happened was in ancient Greece, around 400 of 500 BC. Somewhere in there. When their rulers became tyrants, the entire nation weeped. Countless men and women were slaughtered mercilessly. It was said that the blood spilled had managed to drip from Earth, all the way down to Hell. It touched a valley of tortured souls, and that's how Jasper was created.
He saved them, at first. The unfortunate reality of summoning a demon to save your nation is he will most likely take the souls of the people as his reward. He watched over the nation for a long time, but in the end, Jasper was the true reason ancient Greece fell. He was, and still is, the only demon that ever possessed that much power. The Gods took notice, and to make a long story short, that's how the society came to be.
It wasn't until 30 BC that another demon would be created that way. Following Cleopatra's death, the Egyptians grieved so much, they decided to prey for a great protector. Through that, Jarin came to be. Obviously all of that was a long ass time ago. Over the years, the stories of how two great demons were born from ash and blood became nothing but old wives tales.
In 1910, Italy went to war with the Ottoman Empire. The army had no faith in a victory. So, they resorted to the only option they had. They had to believe those old wives tales, and they prayed desperately for help from the supernatural world. When their tears fell to the coals, I was created. They even offered to sacrifice their virgins, and I believe that's the reason I'm an incubus."
"The real question is, did they deliver on that promise?" Ryan joked.
Asher snickered, "Oh, trust me, when I won the war for them, they were willing to give me whatever I wanted. I protected their country in secrecy for a few decades, until the 1930s when they idiotically attacked Ethiopia. Even I told them it was a bad idea. The entire country was thrown out of the League of Nations, so they signed a treaty with Hitler to cover their asses.
All the chaos of the situation made my presence known to the Roman Catholic Church. The Pope ordered me to be executed immediately. I guess to him, my life didn't matter because I was pure evil. My own people turned against me. I didn't have any way of getting energy, so eventually, their army did wear me down enough to defeat me.
My head was literally in the guillotine, when Carmella stepped in and saved me. Well, she killed everyone else in the process, but what else would you expect from her? She blackmailed me into a pact and started to use me as her pawn. My job was to erase vampires from Earth by any means necessary. I didn't want to do it. Even though I like to hurt people, I didn't want to kill a fellow dark creature, but I had no choice.
That's how I learned to find loopholes in orders. She ordered me to eliminate every vampire on Earth. She never said how fast I had to do it. So, I started playing with my prey. That way they got to live longer and I got a much better meal out of it. There were times I'd get caught by police, and I'd have to massacre a lot of people. When it was humans, it didn't really phase me."
"I'm guessing when Carmella was killed, it broke the pact?"
"Well, not exactly. Because she refused to touch an incubus, since she apparently thought she was better than us, she subcontracted me through one of her servants. That servant being Paris. So, when Jasper rescued Paris from her, he gained control over me. He helped to break the contract as so long as he could brand me." He explained.
