                              ----------------------------------------------------------------
“Welcome to the night of your life,” Dylan said as he guided me into the building. Music blared and the floor shook with the beat of the music. “How asdgjkhawkejhgsda?”
                              “What?”
                              “asdhgikhwieghksdga?”
“I CAN’T HEAR YOU.” He leaned in closer to my ear.
“HOW ARE YOU FEELING?” I pulled away. Too loud and too close. In response to his question, I pulled him away to the snack table. I started snacking on some Doritos and cheese balls and Dylan’s body shook next to me.
                              “What?” I said between bites.
He leaned in to say, “I take you to prom and the first thing you do is stuff your face.”
I turned his head so that I was speaking into his ear, “Hey, we need food to survive.”
He turned my head and said, “Do you want to dance?”
“In a bit,” I reply. I continued snacking on the Doritos as I looked around the room. I saw Gabriel dancing with some girls on the dance floor and I laughed at his dancing skills. He did something that I could only describe as ‘the funky chicken.’
I continued looking around and mentally judging some of the other people’s dresses. Finally my eye caught onto Maggie and her date. He looked strangely familiar. Maggie was glaring at me and Dylan. She didn’t take the news very nicely. Dylan had to break up with her, even if they weren’t officially together. She didn’t like that very much. She continued picking on me whenever she could when Dylan wasn’t around. Dylan was still friends with his teammates and they took the news nicely. They accepted me as one of them, although I didn’t really get used to having jocks as friends. I was still friends with Gabriel more than I was friends with Dylan’s teammates.
I continued staring at Maggie and her date. Once the people in front of him moved away, I got a better view of him. I nearly dropped my Doritos to the ground when I gasped.
“What’s wrong?” Dylan asked, sensing my horror.
                              “It’s Jeremy!” I screeched.
                              “Who?”
“With Maggie! It’s Jeremy! From Philly!” My screeching seemed to grab the attention of Jeremy, who excused himself from Maggie’s grasp and started to walk toward us.
                              “Abby?” he asked.
“Jeremy?” I asked in a similar fashion. “What are you doing here? I thought you were in Philadelphia?”
“Not anymore. I couldn’t send you off that day because I had to pack to move over here. Fancy meeting you guys here,” he said. “I didn’t know it was the same Massachusetts you guys were in so I didn’t bother mentioning it. Small world.”
“Yep,” Dylan said simply. He was still sore about what happened in Philly.
“Wait, so how do you know Maggie?” I asked.
“Oh her? My friend made me go. He was supposed to come here with her. Got a nasty stomach virus. You should’ve seen it.” He shivered at the thought. “Just here as a sub for him. I’m glad I came though. I got to see you again!”
“Glad to see you, too,” I said.
                              “Yep,” Dylan repeated.
“So are you guys, like, a thing?” Jeremy asked.
Suddenly becoming protective, Dylan wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me into him. “Yep. She’s mine.”
“I knew it would happen,” Jeremy said. “You guys had L-O-V-E written all over your faces.”
“Wait. If I remember correctly, the first and last time you saw us was when he called me fat,” I said.
“Love,” Jeremy said. “Anyway, I gotta get back to Maggie before she flips.”
“Literally,” I add. Jeremy chuckled and made his way back.
We watched as Jeremy made his way back to Maggie side and as Maggie scolded Jeremy for talking to us.
“I thought he had better judgment than that,” I said to Dylan.
“Yeah? He has bad judgment. He called me a douche bag.”
“You heard that?!” I asked astonished.
“The trashcan was on the corner and you guys weren’t necessarily ‘whispering,’” Dylan explained. “Wanna dance?” I gave him a discerning look and he restated, “Would you like to dance, my fair maiden?”
“I would love to,” I said as I extended my hand. We swayed to the slow music and jumped to the upbeat ones. Soon enough, we were both starting to get tired.

                              “Tired already, Princess?”
                              I turned to look. “Gabriel!”
“May I have this dance, Princess?” he asked while extending his arm in a silly fashion. I giggled and took his extended hand. Dylan’s hand wrapped on top of mines. “What?” I asked.
                              “What?” Gabriel repeated.
“Aren’t you tired?” Dylan asked. His eyes said something different. His eyes said, “I don’t want you to dance with anyone else but me.”
                              “He’s just a friend, Dylan,” I said.
“I’m just ‘a friend’? Is that all I’ve become?! I’m the friend that got you two together!” Gabriel shouted. “If you don’t want to dance, then fine.” Gabriel turned around with a huff and I grabbed his arm.
“Let’s go, big guy,” I said as I hooked my arm with his. Dylan remained close but not so close as to interrupt with my and Gabriel’s cha-cha.
Not so long after I separated myself with Dylan, a girl tapped me on my shoulder.
                              “Abigail?” she asked.
“Yeah?” I said from over my shoulder. Gabriel proceeded to dip me in front of the girl.
“Um, can I, uh, dance with Dylan? Just once?” she asked from above me. Gabriel pulled me back upright and I looked to Dylan. He shrugged.
                              “Um, sure. Knock yourself out.”
                              “Really?!”
                              “Yeah, I don’t mind.”
“Thanks, Abigail!” The girl ran over to Dylan and started shaking what her momma gave her viciously, making Dylan sport an uncomfortable look. I giggled at his expression and continued doing the cha-cha with Gabriel.

Eventually, we returned to our respective partners: Dylan and I, Gabriel and a random girl, and I didn’t know where Dylan’s fangirl went.
“Why did you let her dance with me?” Dylan asked.
“I don’t know. She wanted to.”
                              “And you’re okay with that?”
“She didn’t ask to eat you or anything. She asked to dance with you. At least she asked,” I suggested. “You didn’t hate it that much did you?”
“I didn’t hate it … but I wanted to dance with you more,” he said as he rested his chin on the top of my head. I leaned my head into his chest and listened to his heartbeat. It was beating as quickly as mines and I absorbed his scent.
“Prom is fun,” I said into his chest.
“It is,” Dylan replied. “Too bad it’s our last.”
“Mmm, too bad. Let’s just enjoy the moment, okay?”
“Okay,” he said as we swayed to the music.
