It was one of those days where all of you wanted to do was snuggle up under a fuzzy blanket, lay on the couch, and watch Netflix while drinking a steamy cup of hot cocoa, with marshmallows of course. But Robbie and I knew better.

It was the perfect day for sledding. In the twenties, a soft breeze making the snow lift up and form little tornadoes on the surface, and a foot of snow piles outside. We had been a couple now for a month on this very day, and what’s a better way to celebrate then to make complete fools of ourselves and go sledding? Wait for it...us.

I packed my tube sled into the Robbie’s car. He already has one of those cheap, plastic two person sleds and one of those weird saucer ones inside the trunk. I’m surprised he still has them even though both his sisters are older than him and already moved out. I, on the other hand, had a perfect excuse with two younger brothers.

“Excited?” He asks, eagerness showing in his eyes and we both climb into our seats.

“Yeah, you know it!” I reply.

It was a twenty-minute drive, but completely worth it. This sledding hill has been used for decades, and was one of the best in the area. We both climb out and grab our sleds. I try to grab two but end us dropping both of them, being the cluz that I am.

“Need some help?” Robbie asks, raising his eyebrow.

He looks adorable in his winter gear. He was black head to toe, except for his red hat, his most favorite color, that still showed a bit of his hair. His marvelous green eyes shimmered like the newly fallen snow around us.

“I got it.” I say picking the sleds up again. We don’t even walk ten yards until I’ve dropped them again.

“Here,” Robbie says, bending over to grab one, “Better?”

“Ya, thanks Robbie.” I say.

We make the small hike up the hill. I kept on slipping, but Robbie alwasy helped me up. It was sorta embarrassing, but he didn’t seem to mind. It actually seemed he kinda enjoyed it.

Many younger kids crowd around, waiting their turn to go down. Robbie and I look like giants compared to the sea of rambunctious little kids.

“Uh, over here.” Robbie says, taking my hand and pulling me to the other side of the hill where it is steeper with less people.

“Um, Robbie, I don’t think-“ I begin.

“Oh come on,” Robbie pleads, “It’ll be fun! Coming from someone with a deathly fear of heights, you can do this.”

I nod, and we set down our sleds.

We ride individually at first, racing each other to see who could go the farthest or who could make it to the bottom first. I won most of the time, and when I did Robbie would always ask for a rematch, making up some lame excuse saying how it was “unfair”.

“Hey, do you want to ride together?” Robbie asks, out of breath. We both forgot how exhausting sledding was.

“Sure, I’ll ride in front.”

I walk over and grab the two-person sled, dragging it to a good spot where not many people were. I position myself in front, my legs crammed together as Robbie comes in behind me.

It was nice having his body pressed up against mine. I lean back and grab the rope.

“Ready?” Robbie asks, getting ready to push off with his arms.

“Let’s do this!” I yell, and Robbie pushes off.

We race down the hill. I scream, being the wimp I am. Robbie just laughs hysterically. I wasn’t sure if it was intended for me, or he was having fun, or both. We travel a bit once we make it to the bottom because of al the momentum we created.

“That. Was. So. Much. FUN!!!” I scream and turn around and give him a big hug. He returns it. We both separate and stare into each other’s eyes. As if on a timer, both of us lean in and I turn my head slightly at the same time. We kiss passionately at the bottom of the hill. Thank God no kids were around witnessing this.

When we separate, Robbie asks, “Wanna do this again?”

“Sure.” I say, smiling.

We head back up the hill, hand in hand, just smiling happily at each other.
