The little ‘ding’ of the bell above the entryway goes off right as I step inside. Immediately I’m overwhelmed with the uplifting aroma of unused books, fresh off the print and ready to be bought. It was the kind of smell that made you seem right at home. I was out of books to read. What can I say? I’m such a bookworm.
I stroll carefully down the aisles, searching for the right book. I finally make it to the fantasy section, my favorite genre. Books are my escape from reality. Once I find a good book and read it, it’s as if it becomes a part of me. Reading was my favorite past time, and there was nothing better than curling up on a couch and reading a fine piece of literature.
I scan the shelves circumspectly, but nothing really catches my attention. I look to my right to see a boy about my age with flipped brown hair with plain, green t-shirt looking intently at the shelves as well. He notices I’m staring at him and glances over to me. He just stood there, waiting for me to say something.
“Hey, do you know of any good books? I’m low on reading material and there’s not much here.” I say, walking over to him.
“Umm…here, what about this?” He asks, pulling a book out from the shelf. I peer over to see. It was ‘Peter Pan’. I’ve heard of the book and seen the Disney movie numerous times before, but I’ve never actually read the book version of the fairytale.
“Oh, this is great! Thank you so much.” I blush. This boy was down right attractive. Not only that, but he loved books too. This is what I like to call a ‘win-win’ situation.
The boy waves and smiles lopsidedly, then returns to his book hunting like before as if our whole ‘conversation’ had never happened. There was something fascinating about him, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I shrug my shoulders and walk over to the cash register.
“That’ll be eight forty-two, ma’am,” The nice lady behind the counter says, “Ah, ‘Peter Pan’. Great read. The author had quite an imagination.”
I nod and give her my money.
“Have a nice day!” The lady says before I open the door.
“Thanks. You too.” I smile before walking out the door, the same ‘ding’ as before echoing throughout the shop.
I don’t walk even five steps before running into the guy from earlier. Wait, I didn’t even see him leave…
“Oh, sorry about that. Ah, so you got the book.” He says in his fluent British accent. He points to the paperback in my hands.
“Ya. I’ll probably start it tonight.”
“Cool.”
“Oh, I never got your name. I’m Hanna.”
“Oh, sorry Hanna. Did I forget to introduce myself?” he asks, a sly smirk spreading across his face. He steps closer until he is inches away from my ear, “I’m Peter, Peter Pan.”
