Maggie’s POV:

I wake up energetically and sit straight up in my bed. Today was the day! I was finally turning 16! Well, sorta. Time stands still in Neverland. I looked not a day over fourteen. But still! It was my birthday!

I inhale deeply and smile at nothing. I get out of bed and saunter over to my wardrobe were I select a vintage floral dress with my russet leather combat boots. I put my hair in a messy bun and quickly apply some waterproof mascara. I almost never wear makeup, but today was special.

I walk out to see the camp completely deserted. Weird. The Lost Boys and Pan must’ve gotten a head start on hunting today.

I walk over to a nearby tree and climb up ever so carefully like Pan taught me and steal some eggs for breakfast. I wonder where everyone is? Normally they wait for me.

Maybe they forgot my birthday, I think, but quickly shake the thought from my head. They would never do that. I’ve been on this island for almost a year now, and most of the lost boys consider me a sister and to the littler ones a mother figure. So where were they?

Surely Pan didn’t forget. If he did I would be crushed. I’ve liked him ever since I stared into those deep emerald eyes of his. I’ve always thought he felt the same way, but I was never too sure. He normally treated me like one of the boys.

I walk over to the campfire and believe it is ignited. I find a random iron skillet in the dirt and quickly wipe it with a rag. I crack the eggs carefully into it. I hold the skillet over the pot and wait for it to cook.

“Good morning.” I hear a dark voice from behind me. I turn around and see it’s Felix.

“Oh, hey Felix. Where is everybody?”

“Out hunting.” He says, pointing to the forest from behind us.

“Oh, okay. Should I get my stuff together after I eat?”

“No, Pan said it would be best if you stayed here.”

Wow. So he didn’t remember. Even Felix didn’t mention anything. And we’re super close.

“Okay. When will you guys be back?”

“Late this afternoon.”

“Well, see you then, I guess.”

“Bye Maggie.” He says, slurring his words like always. He pulls his hood of his cloak over his head, props his spear over his shoulder, and turns and walks away solemnly.

It all stung so much. Why would they forget? I sniff deeply and realize my eggs are burning.

“Shit.” I mumble under my breath.

I walk over to the fire and flip them over, only to see it burnt on one side.

“Oh well, guess this will have to suffice.”

I scoop the eggs out of the pan and onto a plate, also found on the ground. They tasted all right, just a little chalky.

“Note to self: Don’t leave cooking food unattended,” I say to myself, then pause, “Another note to self: Stop talking to yourself. People are going to think you’re crazy.”

For the rest of the day I just relaxed, unperturbed and tranquil. I suppose you could call it an ‘off day’. Nobody came through the camp at all. I read some timeworn journals and took a hike. But overall I just felt hollow inside. It still couldn’t wrap my head around the fact they had completely overlooked my birthday.

Finally, after what seemed like ages, the Lost Boys and Pan finally returned.

“Finally! I was so bored here!” I said, a little irritated. The sun was setting and they were supposed to be here ages ago.

“Sorry, we were running low on meat.” Pan said walking up to confront me.

“It’s fine.”

“Could you do me a quick favor and get me some bananas? I was thinking about having them with dinner tonight.”

“Sure thing, Pan.” I replied a little too harshly, a bit too sarcastically, and walked off.

Peter’s POV:

We spent all day scheduling Maggie’s surprise birthday party. We covered it up by saying we were hunting, and she fell for the bait.

I had to send her off so we could prepare. But her last comment hurt. I hated to see her cross with me. I knew she was mad that we ‘forgot’ her birthday, but her remark stung.

And to be frank, I really liked her. Her smile meant the world to me, and when she was sad a small cloud drifted above me weighing me down. But it was all for the greater good. She would be so thrilled when she sees the party.

We hung up lime and sapphire garlands and balloons everywhere. I lit the fire, and it brought light and warmth to the dark setting. The Boys and I hid behind trees, not making a peep. We heard some humming and twigs snapping and I instantly recognized that it was Maggie. Here goes nothing.

Maggie’s POV:

I had gathered about five bunches of bananas, considering the fact that the Lost Boys could easily eat two whole ones in ten seconds flat. Boys sure had a large appetite. Especially after hunting all day like they just did.

As I stepped closer to the camp, I saw the fire was already burning brightly, a large contrast to the dismal woods I had been trekking in for the last half hour. I walked closer and saw blue and bright emerald streamers and balloons hanging loosely everywhere.

“Wait, wha-“ I began, but was interrupted by all of the Lost Boys and Pan jump out from behind trees, screaming “SURPRISE!”

“Oh my God, guys, this is amazing! I thought you all forgot!”

“Of course not, love, we would never do such a thing.” Peter says, parting through the sea of Lost Boys like Moses. When he said love I swear I thought I was going to spew butterflies.

“Thank you!” I say, and randomly embrace him. He seemed startled, not hugging back, but eventually wrapped his arms around me. We parted, still holding each other.

“Just kiss already.” Felix groaned.

And with that we smashed our lips together, kissing passionately. Many lost boys gave ‘ew’ faces, other almost seemed…jealous?

We finally parted, both beaming from head to toe and looked deeply into each other’s eyes.

“On with the celebration, then!” Peter yelled, not taking his eyes off me. Tonight was going to be amazing.
