Levi Ackerman
Without Takahiro around, I'm fully in charge of Saichi. Her schedule is the most hectic I've seen my entire life. She has signings, fan meetings, interviews, shoots, and deadlines. There's no way I can keep up with it all but Takahiro still isn't back from Russia. He isn't answering his phone so I'm stuck. This afternoon, she has a meeting with my uncle and her father. They are trying to come to some kind of agreement so the two clans can come together for an alliance. The only thing standing in the way: Saichi.
I clean the living room and move into the kitchen. Saichi comes down the stairs with Aki quickly trailing behind her. She's wearing one of Maki's shirts and sweatpants and glasses. She must have been working on her book. She begins rummaging through the fridge while Aki goes to pester Maki who's been quiet on the couch all day.
She pulls out a bottle of water and jumps up to sit on the counter. "What time are they supposed to be here?"
I shrug my shoulders. "Not sure."
"When is Takahiro supposed to be back?"
"I don't know that either."
"I know you don't really know him but he isn't the type to just run off like this. He wouldn't leave me alone so suddenly." I have this feeling again. They're so close. Takahiro, Aki, Maki. Saichi isn't one to trust many people. Does she care about him more than she could care for me? Tch. Why the hell must I have such brat thoughts like this? It feels disgusting but worrisome. "Levi, you must understand that I've spent my entire life with him and the two idiots in there."
I drop the plate in my hand. "What?"
"I can see it on your face. You're jealous."
"I am not!"
She scoffs and sips some water. "Levi, being jealous isn't out of the ordinary. I felt that towards you a lot. When we would always go to those fancy places with Erwin, the women would always be all over you. It was hard to watch that."
I never knew she felt that way. She hid it so well. I can't even think it without making it obvious through my face. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"How old are Maki and Aki?"
"Maki is seventeen now. He's in his last year of high school. Aki is sixteen, still in his second."
"How did you even meet them? Where were they born?"
"The thing is Aki and Maki were never actually born. They're scientific experiments created by Hange himself."
"What? Are you serious?"
"Hange had been the first man ever to be able to create humans without a male and female. He was very proud. Maki was the first. He used my DNA to make him into werecat at birth. Maki developed well. It was an issue when he realized that Maki couldn't talk or walk. He was like a live doll that could simply breathe."
"Where did Aki come in?"
"Hange thought he made a mistake with Maki's chromosomes so he tried again. Aki was made the same way except he waited until Aki was a full human before inserting my DNA. The same thing happened again. It was hard for Hange who watched his hard work fail. He brought this to many other science organizations but no one knew how to fix them."
"What made you take them on?"
"Well, I met them when I was younger." She looks over at them. I can see the soft expression on her face. "For some reason, the other scientist would abuse them when hange wasn't around. I couldn't stand seeing them in that lab and not be able to defend themselves. So, I told Takahiro to bring them home with us. He was hesitant but complied."
"Wow. They must be very grateful."
"I don't really care about that. They were too young to understand why they were so hated. I put up with Aki's immaturity or Maki's occasional sarcasm because no one deserves to be treated like they were."
She has a personality as cold as ice but the heart as big as the Earth itself. I cross the kitchen and hold her by the face to press my lips to hers. I make my lips are firm against hers, but the kiss remains soft, gentle, slow. We hold it for a few seconds before our lips begin to move in perfect sync, slowly, cautiously. I exhale through my nose, not wanting to let go, gripping the back of her neck with all my self-control.
My entire body has been taken over by the overwhelming feeling of relief, combined with eccentric panic, and lust. She drops her water bottle and curls her fingers into my shirt as I lightly pull her into me, adding more pressure to our lips, deepening the kiss. The doorbell rings and it makes me jump away. I wipe my mouth and catch my breath. She looks at the door and her eyes narrow. "Aki, Maki."
The two brings from the couch and lower into their cat forms. She jumps from the counter and creeps to the door. She slowly opens the door and grabs whoever it is on the other side. I glance around to see she's holding...Furlan to the floor. Aki and Maki are crouched, ready for attack while she's holding one arm behind his back with her knee in his back and a gun to his head. When did she start carrying guns? "Oh, it's just you," she says. "What are you doing here? I never gave you my address."
"Your father gave it to me!" he explains. "I told him I wanted to ask you out!"
A look of annoyance crosses her face as she slowly lets him up. Furlan is a young man with light gray eyes and dark blond hair. He catches eyes with me and begins laughing. "No way. Levi." He leaves the entrance and throws his arms around me. "Good to see you again."
I fight back my tears. He's here with me. He can stay this time. I plan to make that happen. We sit together in the living room while Maki and Aki go change. "Furlan works for me at my bar," Saichi informs me. "You're always welcome to stop by, Levi."
As we catch up, her father and my uncle eventually arrive. Furlan excuses himself since he knows nothing good will come of this meeting. We can't risk him spilling anything to the police.
