Saichi Yamazaki

This is yet another bland afternoon, looking at a blank page. I don't know why I even try at this point. I have absolutely no inspiration. I finally close my laptop and pick up the folder by the edge. It's the file I asked Nanabe for last night. Yuri is ten but isn't gravely ill. She just has a hole in her lung. It's an easy operation for me but her bills are expensive which is why it has not been done yet. Her father was some client of her mother's and her mother doesn't have the money or the care to pay for the procedure. Everything comes together now. Haru works in such a dangerous way because he needs to money for his sister. I gave Erwin a call and scheduled for me to operate on her next week, the bill being put under my name.

I open the folder and look at her picture attached. She looks a lot like her brother. She has long, soft black hair and ocean blue eyes. When I meet her, there's no doubt that she will have the most bright smile and innocent personality. I store the folder away in my bottom drawer. I adjust my glasses and go back to my laptop.

There's a soft knock on my door after an hour passes. "Come in." I look up to see Haru hopping through the door on his crutches. His leg wasn't shattered but it was cracked in a few places. I already removed the bandages from his head. His werecat genes healed the scar. I told Levi to tell him to stay off of it for a while. He's another brat that just doesn't listen. I pull my glasses up to my head. "Haru? What is it? What are you doing out of bed?"

He closes the door and drops a crutch only to bow as best as he can. "Thank you, Saichi!"

"Why are you thanking me?"

"Levi told me you paid for my sister's operation and you're going to be doing it yourself! I owe you my life!"

I throw one leg over the other. "I didn't want any gratitude. It sucks for a young girl to have her innocent youth taken away due to such a minor issue and inadequate parents."

He doesn't stand up just yet. "I owe you my life in exchange for saving hers!"

"Haru-"

"Please let me stay with and serve you like Mr. Akiyama. I want to be someone that can help you for the rest of my life."

Hm. I was expecting to have to convince him myself. I guess he did all the work for me. I stand from my chair and pick up his crutch. I stand there until he looks up, finally. I put the crutch back under his arm. I ruffle his hair and laugh. He's confused but also overwhelmed. His cheeks become a bright red. He's watching someone that kicked his head and put a gun to his head smile. "You and your sister can stay here permanently but you have to make a promise to me."

"What is it...?"

"You will not dedicate your time to being a guard for me. That's what adults like Takahiro and Levi are for. You will get off the streets and go back to school. I want to see you graduate and make something of yourself. Be an example for Yuri. If you can do that, I will consider us even."

He nods furiously. "I understand! I'll do it!"

"If you break this promise, I will never forgive you."

He wobbles back to his room and the conversation reminds me to call Takahiro. He's supposed to be looking for Haru's mother. He picks up immediately. "Saichi, calling for the kid's mother?"

"Naturally."

"I did find her. Her name is Miyo and she lives in Tokyo. Would you like to take the trip there?"

I throw myself into my chair and sigh. "Absolutely not. Just send someone to kill her. I don't have the energy to do it myself."

"Are you sure you want to kill her?"
