Levi Ackerman
"They have photo albums?"
I was cleaning out Saichi's closet and I happened to come across a box full books. They were filled with pictures. I didn't recognize the kids in them at first until I got the end and the last photo is Maki with Aki in the baseball uniforms, holding a first place trophy. I had to find Saichi out on the balcony of her bedroom just to ask her about it. For the past few days, she's been quiet and softer on everyone. Well, everyone besides her father. She has been taking care of the three brats like they are her own and, every time I see her, she has a soft smile on her face.
She leans against the railing, removing an unlit cigarette from her mouth. "I told you, I raised them."
I begin flipping through the pages. There are pictures of them learning to walk, in the tub together, their first day of school, and so forth. "What was that like?"
"It took five years for them to begin walking, another two years for them to have perfect speech."
"That sounds...exhausting." I set the book down on a lounge chair and join her on the railing. I would usually wrap my arms around her but she's been so sensitive lately. I could break her with such a simple gesture. "Isn't that thing for your father tonight?"
"I decided to go."
"Oh..." She will be making the engagement with Furlan official. Once that happens, I'll lose her forever. I will be only her guard and there is nothing in my power that I can do to stop it. She shows so much hate for her father but she does everything he asks her to. I will never understand it. "Saichi, I-"
She places a hand over my mouth, cutting me right off. "Save it, Levi." She tucks her cigarette behind her ear and begins walking away. I need to stop letting her out of my grasp. The little time I have with her should be spent wisely. I grab her by the wrist and attempt to pull her back but I'm thrown over her shoulder and I'm flat on my back in the blink of an eye. I feel it immediately in the lower part of my spine. Dammit, she's strong. I can't ever figure out why I'm protecting someone who could beat me in a fight. "Don't touch me."
She steps over me and continues out to her bedroom. What the hell is her problem? Within the hour, her usual stylists arrive in order to torture her. She hates when they doll her up but she has no complaints this time. I dress in a vest suit, slicking my hair back. Maki, Haru, and Yuri are coming with us. Eren is staying with Erwin for the night. I'm the one that has to pick him up in the morning. I tuck a knife under my pants leg and a gun is strapped to my side. While I'm pulling on my jacket, Haru comes in with his tie in hand. Brat can't even tie a damn tie.
I don't even need him to ask. I throw it around his neck and hurry with the knot. We don't have much time. "Levi? Why is Saichi asking Yuri and I to come with her? Isn't this some big yakuza event?"
That's a good question. Even Takahiro questioned her. She didn't give him a solid answer. She just ordered him to ensure they had formal clothing to wear. None of it made sense but we are obligated to do as she says. If we want to keep our heads, that is. "I don't know." I tuck his tie into his vest and fix his jacket. "Just stay near her and don't cause trouble for yourself. You're representing her so you-"
"I should represent her well, just like she taught me."
She has this brat whipped, compared to the rebellious shitbag he was at first. We go down to the main hall where Takahiro and Yuri are waiting. Yuri pulled her long hair back with a pink flower. Her dress is the color of cherry blossoms, fluttering past her knees. She looks exactly like the sweet girl she is. I check my watch and realize we have a half hour to get to the venue when it's an hour away. Great.
