G'day guys it's Jessi here and I need to vent
So just brace yourselves
Now one of the things that I do on my Twitter account is scroll through my newsfeed and this one tweet caught my attention thanks to Mr Tyler Oakley which read the following:
@tyleroakley: we must #ProtectTransKids. this administration is attacking disenfranchised communities one by one. we must stand together for what's right
And being slightly confused by what was going on I then read the article attached in the tweet
*ahem*
'BREAKING: Trump administration lifts transgender student bathroom protections, citing legal confusion.'
If anyone is still confused then basically, Trump has removed the protection rights for Transgender bathrooms which is now confusing everyone...why?
Look I will be perfectly honest with you guys, no I am not a transgender and the very first time I really saw or heard of transgender was a) on the t.v show GLEE when Wayne 'Unique' Adams was introduced and b) when Caitlyn Jenner appeared on the cover of Vogue Magazine. Still just because I am someone who is not 100% familiar with Trans genders I have been for a very long time a supporter of the LGBT community because I know and am friends with girls and guys who have preferences to just girls or guys or even both.
For anyone not familiar with who a person of transgender is, they are a male who wants to live preferably as a female or a female who wants to live preferably as a male. I really don't understand why they have this label because really it doesn't matter who you are if you want to be someone that you would be happy with then go for it, you want to date someone whether or not they are from the same sex then go for it. There shouldn't be any labels because you cannot label someone for who they are or what their life choices are.
I mean it would be pretty sad if everyone was being labelled because of who they are, we wouldn't be people then, we would just be jars with labels on them walking around on the planet.
Now onwards from this article I wanted to do some research because honestly my ignorance really made me blinded as to how seriously wrong Trump was in his actions and it was these statistics that I found:
1) In the US there was an estimation as to how many people identified themselves as transgender and the number was an estimation of 700,000 people. Seriously I think it is amazing as to how far society has come in terms of how people are able to express themselves and identify themselves as a transgender. I think that this is empowering and surely there are more people in the world that identify themselves too.
2) In the US 41% of the Transgender community have attempted or have commited suicide, and yes it may sound a little extreme. But that is because they have suffered sexual abuse, physical abuse, denied rights, bullying at school, belitted and not just come others at school or at work but even in their own families
3) 18 out of the 50 states of America have clear laws protecting the Transgender community, now that may seem like a great thing, and it is that there are states that have the empathy and look at these people as equals. Something that Trump is now trying to change. But what about the other 32 states? What rights do they get to have in their communities?
I recall only a little while back, there was a civil rights movement, a civil rights movement to fight the boundaries of segregation between white and black, and now once again we have to make another civil rights movement to fight the boundaries between what is seen as "normal" and what is seen as "queer". Those of the LGBT community are no different from us, they have ten fingers, they have ten feet and they put their pants on one leg at a time like everyone else but some people *cough* Trump *cough cough* are that ignorant and are that scared to acknowledge that yes some of us are different, we all not all the same, we are not all the same product with the same barcode.
We live in a world where we have had to fight to earn what we deserved and taking away the toilets used for Transgender, their safe haven and one of their symbolisms of hard work and fighting to stop the countless bullying incidences that occur in the school toilets is basically sentencing every transgender child or teenager or adult to physical and mental torture and also sever bullying which then leads them to being a part of the 41% who attempt suicide because they just want to be equal to everyone else. They want not just the same facilities that we can use, they want the same respect, encouragement and equalities that we have and we use for granted every single day. Where is the fairness drawn for them when their own safety barriers are being breached?
And now for everyone that reads this thinking "Jessi why would you make a blog about this, it doesn't concern me or you"...It will because I will give you the layout. If god bless you grow up and want to have children and one of your children decides that he doesn't want to be a boy anymore and you being the beautiful heart that you are accepted him as herself...you would want your child to be treated the same as everyone else regardless as to what others think of him coming out as her. You would want equality rights for her and you would want her to feel like she is being accepted in a nurturing community. Also this is the 21st century guys, if you don't accept it now then when. These guys could be the next USA president and when that day happens I will be waving my LGBT flag high and proud because of what a global change we have all accepted wonderfully. What is caused in America influences Australians to treat our Transgender communities the same way, you break the equality bend then so will we and if that happens which I hope never will...it will tear this world apart.
Now this is where I draw the line for my input on this matter but if you want to share your thoughts and beliefs about what is occurring then leave a comment below. Give this blog a vote and if you are a twitter follower, let's support Tyler by making #ProtectTransKids the number one trend not for just the issue going on at the moment in America but for the transgender community all over the world.
The link to the tweet today can be found in the comments and remember guys, we are all equal and in no way should our world ever want to come to the idea of using labels. Because labels suck and we should be proud of not just who we are but who we want to be and what makes us both happy and live to our full potential as a growing species.
<3 Bye Guys xx <3
