"Wait, Diana!" Luke calls, making me pause halfway through the gate. I glance over my shoulder at him and wait as he hurries out of the car, tripping and falling on his face as his foot gets caught in the seat belt. Either way, he makes his way up to me, face burning.

"Are you okay?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

He nods quickly, his eyes practically burning a hole through me. The first thing I noticed about him back at the guidance office was his brilliant blue eyes. They're the kind of eyes I could imagine staring into for an eternity.

"So, what's up?" I ask after a moment of standing in silence.

"Oh, right." He shoves his hands into his pockets and tilts his head down, looking at me from beneath long eyelashes. "Can I walk you to the door?"

"Uh, I guess." So we walk up the long sidewalk to my house, slowly. I really don't want to go home, now that I think of it, but I'm here. Why did I accept his invitation for a ride? I should have simply walked. Facing my mother, asking her to renew my prescription, it's not something I want to do right now.

"Are you feeling okay, Diana?" He asks rather suddenly, glancing over at me.

"I'm fine," I answer on instinct. It was usually my go-to response, to say I was fine. But Luke seems to see right through me. Still, I shake my head. "I'm totally okay, Luke. You don't have to worry about me. You obviously have enough of your own problems."

We're quiet for the rest of the walk to my doorway. I glance over at his dad in the car of whom was now speaking carefully to his girlfriend. The look in her eyes is so loving, so caring, I cringe. My eyes flicker back to Luke whom had gone back to staring at his converse.

"Hey, do you want to hang out?" I ask before I can really think about it.

His ears perk up for a second, and he looks at me in surprise. "Really?" He squeaks, rubbing the back of his neck. Before I can reply, he says, "I'd love to! I-I mean," his voice lowers a pitch, "Sure. That'd be cool."

I turn my head so he doesn't see me snicker, and nod. "Alright." I smile. "Come on inside--or wait, you should probably tell your dad first." I shoot a glance at his father. He's watching us again, raising an eyebrow. I wonder if he's wondering why Luke has anything to do with some snobby rich girl like me. Obviously I have everything, he's probably thinking, but that doesn't mean Luke would want anything to do with me. He's so sweet, so nice, but what am I? Some rich girl from the upper east side?

"Sure, give me a sec." He jogs down the sidewalk, only taking half the time it took us to get here. He does have rather long legs, I notice.

Wait--what am I doing? I shake my head and pull my phone out of my purse to check for any texts. Just one from... Derik.

Hey, babe.xx I'm sorry I couldn't drive you home today. Maybe tomorrow? We can go to the movies, or something.

Something gave me the idea that if we went to the movies, he wouldn't actually want to watch a movie. I sigh, wondering what happened to back when we would just sit and talk.

I don't know if I can make it. I have to help clean out Ciel's stuff. Sorry.xox

"Alright," Luke says, suddenly appearing over my shoulder. "He said whatever, so I'm going to take that as an okay." He smiles, but it quickly falters when he sees my expression. "What? Is something wrong?"
