The Snow Day

School was cancelled the next day because of all the snow that had fallen the previous night. I had slept in because my mom didn't bother to wake me up when she found out the school news. I finally woke up around 10 am, immediately freaking out, thinking that I had overslept. I had jolted out of bed and ran downstairs to start making breakfast and while it cooked, I ran upstairs to go try to find some clothes to wear. My mom had lazily dragged her feet out of her bedroom, yawning and scratching her scalp.

"What's all the racket about?" She inquired as she stretched and I frantically looked over from where I was standing at my dresser.

"I over slept, mom! I'm late!" Still convinced of that very thing, I was striding into the bathroom to take a shower when my mom said, "Eren, look outside."

I turned my head in confusion and hastily walked over to the top of the stairs where I could see the window that sat atop the front door. Through it, was a beautiful view of the outside. Everything was white, the only exceptions being the green leaves of the pine trees that stuck out from the snow that covered the top of the trees branches. A warm feeling grabbed at my heart and nudged my inner child as a wide smile plastered itself onto my face.

"Schools cancelled," my mom explained and disappeared back into her room to do what I could only assume was getting ready for the day.

I practically sprinted into my room to grab a pair of black skinny jeans, a sweater, and a flannel with a jacket to change into. Knocking on the door to my moms room, I asked if I could invite Armin over and she said that that was find as long as he could get over safely. I chuckled at the statement, thinking about how Armin only lives maybe two houses down, across the street. Pulling my phone out, I texted Armin a 'hey, outside looks fun. What do u think???' To which he replied with an 'I'll bring some sleds.'

I grinned in response while I ate my bagel and watched the snow that was now falling drastically from the sky. It was calm enough that it couldn't be considered a blizzard but it was raging enough to where you couldn't exactly say it was a light snowfall. The snowflakes danced and twirled as they slowly approached the ground. After a while, I had noticed a certain blonde head walking up my driveway with two sleds slung onto his back by the strings that he held that snaked over his shoulder.

'Knock, knock' I heard the front door say as it was hit. I immediately stood at the noise to approach the singular piece of thick wood that separates me from the white, icy outside.

"Hey, bud!" I said as I opened the door, inviting him into the warm house. He dumped the sleds on the front porch and said "hey, Eren!"

"Do you want some hot chocolate or tea?" I offered the rosy-cheeked boy and he just nodded his head while he shook, still recovering from the cold.

"Hot chocolate sounds good." I nodded my head and sauntered into the kitchen to make the hot beverage. After the hot chocolate was finally done being made, I put some whipped cream on it and placed a spoon in the mug, handing the beverage to Armin, who didn't shake anymore; he just sat there patiently waiting, playing on his phone.

"So, how are you?" I asked.

"I'm good! Glad that we get a day off from school but also stressing about it because it means that there's an extra day added onto the end of the school year." He explained and I just shook my head.

"You're stressing because we have to go to school one more day at the end of the school year? Armin, enjoy the snow while it lasts and then we can complain about the extra day at the end of the year." I chortled and he smiled.

"Speaking of school, how was walking home yesterday?" He smirked and my face twisted into confusion until I remembered that I texted Armin, complaining about my situation. Upon remembering what happened last night, a slight dust of pink made its way onto my face which most certainly did not go unnoticed my Armin. "What happened?" He eagerly questioned.
