The days feel longer now.
Sunlight shimmering
on cracked asphalt.
The cicadas are back,
vibrating endlessly,
as spring dissolves into summer.
Lazy weeks painted with
brilliant blue skies.

A faint ache,
like remembering a pleasant dream
after you wake.
As if
nothing will ever be

twirling a strand of pink hair,
scrolling at her phone.
Her head bobs sometimes
as she sips lemonade.

"What?"
"Always looking at me."
"Sorry. Just thinking."
"About how pretty I am?"
A wink.
Long eyelashes.
"Sure, sure. Whatever you say."
She turns to the window.
"Hey."
"Yeah?"
"You know, it feels weird to graduate."
"Can't imagine it."
"Of course you can't."
She giggles, swirling her straw.
"Keichi, I still feel like a kid."
"Doesn't everyone?"
She shakes her head.
"All my classmates...
They have it all figured out."
She looks a bit wistful.
"Here I am, not a clue.
I feel like a bum."
