I wake up around noon, with the sun hitting down on my face. My vision is blurry so I take off my night vision glasses and sit up.

I pick up the sleeping bag and roll it up, putting it in my backpack. Once I’m done packing my things, I notice Lily’s not here. I forgot about my alliance with her till now. I look around for the small girl with the light blond hair and green eyes. No sign of her.

“Lily!” I call out. “Lily!” No reply. I start to worry. I put on my backpack, grab my bow and arrows and jump down the tree. I look around trying to find if I can spot Lily anywhere. I sigh, she’s not here. I eat a cracker and drink some water and decide to just head off. It might just be for the best…

“Hey Katharine,” I hear Lily’s voice behind me.

I turn around, sighing in relief. “There you are!” I say. “I was worried, where were you?”

In reply, she hands me one of my water containers, filled with water. “I found a stream nearby. I also noticed your water supply was low, so I refilled it. And, were you just about to leave?”

“Thanks and yeah. Sorry about that, I though you left when I couldn’t find you.” I say. “We should head out. In case the Career tributes find us.”

“You mean Peter and his gang?” Lily asks looking up at me.

“Yes, they basically are the Career tributes.” I say putting my water bottle in a pocket on my backpack.

“That is true.” Lily says. “Okay then, lets head on out.” She grabs her backpack from inside a few bushes and puts it on. She picks up her bow and arrows which are inside a whole in the tree we were resting in. She nods and we head out.

“Do you know anything about the Careers camp?” I ask.

“A little, I spied on them the first day for a few hours at the lake and followed them, and then saw you in the tree that night, so I started following you, forgetting the Careers. Their camp is by the lake. There are a few other tributes there too. The girl from his district, the girl from 8 and I believe both from 10.”

I nod. “What else about them?”

“They have a good food supply, and really handy weapons. They also have three pair of night vision glasses and four sleeping bags.”

“It’s like they live in a fancy house, well sort of. They are probably not born survivors, like I am. We should raid on them or something. We should take their stuff.”

“I wouldn’t do that. The boy from 6 tried that, and ended up headless.” Lily shivers, and so do I at the gruesome thought of a headless child. “He followed them and tried to take their stuff, and then the girl from 8 tossed an ax at him, beheading him.”

“Then never mind.” I say shivering at the thought. “But we should try sometime, once there are less tributes and Careers and we both make it that far.”

We continue to walk in the thick forest, in the blazing sun for about two hours, without saying a word. I then break this awkward silence with something we are probably both wondering. “Where do you think everyone is?” I ask looking around. The forest is quiet and practically dead. The only things I’m able to hear are the chirping of the Mockingjays and our own footsteps.

Lily shrugs. “Who knows? Maybe some other part of the arena I guess. I mean, most are joined with the Careers, so at the lake I guess. I hope we don’t run into anybody. I get nervous when I think that I’m going to get killed.”
