Soleis

The next minutes happened in a blur. Phone calls, sirens, everything happened too quickly to process. Before I knew it, I was in the back of an ambulance, Aries' seemingly lifeless body next to me. I had to keep glancing at the heart monitor, to assure myself that she was still breathing. Tears flowed down my face, and I didn't stop them, or wipe them away.
We arrived at the hospital in a matter of minutes, and they rushed Aries away, to do whatever they had to to save her life. They deposited me in a waiting room, telling me that they'll alert me to when she's awake. I sit, tapping my foot, for I don't even know how long. Eventually-probably about three or four hours later- they call me over. I stand up, anxiously, and walk over to the nurse that called me over.
"Are you here for Aries?" I nod. "Follow me." She leads me into an elevator, along the way trying to prepare me for what I'm going to see. "She has stitches in her forehead, and stomach. A cast on her right leg, and a brace for her left wrist. She seems to be recovering quickly," We step out of the elevator and walk down a hallway. "But, she also seems to have trouble remembering things. We asked her the basic questions. Who are you? Do you know what happened? Etcetera. She knows basic things, like her name and age, but not what happened, or anything else, really."
We stop in front of a door. "Your name is Soleis, correct?" I nod. "I'll be right back." She walks into the room, shutting the door behind her. I wait, in a chair outside the room, and after a few minutes she comes back. Her expression is sorrowful. "She doesn't remember you. I'm sorry." I sigh and my eyes brim with tears.
"Can I still see her?" The nurse nods and I stand, prepping myself for what I'm about to see. I walk in the room, quietly, and look at the bed in the center of the room. Aries isn't as pitiful as I'd imagined, but it's still pretty bad. Bruises bloom across her arms and cheeks, and the stitches in her forehead are bloody. I can see her cast from under the thin blanket she has, and the brace on her wrist is clunky and seems uncomfortable.
The nurse walks over to her, and injects a syringe into her IV. She turns to me. "She's going to wake up soon, so that'll help with the pain, and keep her calm. New people seem to freak her out a bit." I nod. "Thank you." She steps back into the doorway. "So, are you her sister?" I shake my head.
"Soulmate." She nods. And repeats her apology. I just turn towards Aries, and I hear the door close. I sit on the extra bed, and bring my knees up to my chest. I let my tears flow, and I try to compose myself after. Aries is waking up, slowly, and I wipe the tears away from my face, trying to look like myself. Aries' eyes flutter open, and she surveys the space around her.
As her green eyes land on me, I see her jolt. But as she looks me over, and sees the mess that is my makeup and hair, she relaxes. I sit indian style, and she sits up slowly. When she speaks her voice is raspy, and she seems in pain while she talks. I want to get up and hug her tightly right then and there, to make her pain go away.
"Wh-Who are you?" I duck my head and sigh. I look back up at her.
"Your soulmate." She looks at me, puzzled. "My what?"
    "Soulmate."
Her expression says it all, she doesn't know who I am. My heart breaks a little, and I put my head in my hands. She speaks again, her voice a little less rough.
"I'm sorry I don't know you, but would you by any chance know if I go to school?" I look up at her.
"Yeah. You just started today, actually." She nods. "Would you get my make-up work for me tomorrow? I don't want to miss anything."
I nod and smile a bit. "Yeah, I'll grab it on my way here tomorrow." She smiles.
"Thank you. . . I'm sorry, but what's your name?"
"Soleis. My name's Soleis." She nods.
"Thank you, Soleis." I want so badly to hug her, and hold her tight, and never let go. But, I can't. Not until she knows who I am. But. . . What if she never does?
