Chapter Fifty
Outlands - Crystal's Cafe and Rest StopKayla watched Layette run out the room as she was trying to give her and Lucca a bath. They'd just been gardening in the yard and Layette was still full of energy jumping and dancing around. "Come on Lala, you and Lucca are about to get a bath."
Layette giggled, "Unc Kae!" Before running out the room to go find her beloved uncle so he could give her a bath. Kayla laughed as she turned to Lucca, "Are you going to let me give you a bath or do you want uncle Kae too?"
Lucca smiled at her brightly before running into the bathroom. As she followed him into the bathroom she felt the building start to shake, "Lucca come here we need to go to the basement there's an earthquake."
Lucca frowned at Kayla as he looked around the room, putting his arms up for her to pick him up. Frowning he quickly dropped them upset. Kayla watched as he vanished, the building stopped shaking as she ran out the bathroom looking for him. As she was swinging the door open to rush to the main floor Lucca reappeared with a sobbing Layette. Rushing toward them she looked at Layette, "What's wrong; why are you crying?"
"Bad man hurt Unc Kae and made building shake," sobbed Layette as she returned her mom's hug. "Bad man is mean."
Kayla kissed Layette's head, "Uncle Kae will take care of the bad man. We should just wait here." Kayla hurried them into her bedroom closing the door and flipping the lock. "Lucca come here," she patted the bed and smiled. "What did the bad man look like?"
Lucca stared at her in deep thought before shrugging with a pout, "Tall, hunsome like unc, his eyes purdy like Lala."
Kayla felt the pit of her stomach fall out, "His eyes looked like yours and Lala's?" Jumping to her feet she grabbed the kids, "Oh goddesses and gods in the sky, we need to get out of here." She ran to the window panicking as she heard the door to their rooms open up. Pushing the window open she looked out to see Jacob and a little golden red head girl waving up toward her.
Slamming the window closed she looked at the door as she heard Kaelen start to knock, "Mia I think you should just come out."
Shaking uncontrollably she inched toward the door only for it to slam open and for Lucas to be staring at her. He stalked into the room looking around, "I have a lot of questions." The door slammed behind him, "And I know you had better have some answers Kayla."
Kayla wished she'd pass out but the darkness that would take her away from him wouldn't come. Her children stood looking at him as if were cucuy. "Lucas, I-I"
"Go away bad man," said Lucca with his hands on his hips in a protective stance in front of his mom.
Lucas stared at a miniature of him and a little smiled pulled at his lips, "I'm not a bad man."
The little boy looked up to his mom's ashen face and back to Lucas, "You made Lala cry. You are a bad man."
Lucas smiled, "Are you going to throw me through another window?"
Lucca puffed up his chest as he stared at Lucas, "I will if you try to hurt Unc Kae again or make Lala cry."
Lucas nodded as he took a step toward them staring at the little boy, "What about your mom? If I hurt your mom would you send me through a window?"
Lucca giggled at the silly question, "I'd kill you." As he said the words his eyes flashed and Lucas stopped walking toward them and cocked a brow at Kayla.
Kayla gasped at Lucca, "Lucca don't say something like that to him." She still didn't understand where he got the idea that killing someone was ok and look at Lucas wondering if it was ingrained into their genes. Lucca shrugged as he stared at Lucas waiting for him to come closer.
