~Toni
Josh, Roxy and I were staying in a little cottage at the Pack together. When we arrived, I plonked my stuff in my room and grabbed my skateboard.
"Where are you going?" Roxy asked me.
"Bruno and I are going out." I say. Bruno was like a brother to me. He was Alec's friend and was round at our house nearly every day when they were at school and still was. Bruno and I used to go out skating because Alec didn't like it. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Just as I expected, it was Bruno.
"Are we going to do some exploring?" He said after hugging me and giving me a fist bump.
"Yeah, just wait outside." I said and turned to Roxy who was smiling at me. "Roxy, what you smiling at?"
"You knew that he was going to invite you out to skate. Do you think he could be your mate?"
"Ew, Bruno? No. We always skate on a Saturday and a new place, I knew he'd want to explore. Anyway we fist bump (so our skin touches) all the time and there's never any sparks. Bruno is just a close friend." I say before leaving.
Bruno quickly whipped my hat off my head and put it on.
"Hey give that back!"
"Come and get it."
He pushed off on his skateboard and because we were on a hill, quickly raced away from me. I pushed off and followed him. Wolves from the Regal Pack watched as we raced past, surprised that some of the Shadow Pack were out no doubt. For some reason, the fact that our pack keeps ourselves to ourselves lead other packs to believe that we don't have friends and don't go out. I laughed at the thought and carried on after Bruno. Not looking where I was going, I steered my board into a rock and feel off. My hair flew into my face and I burst into laughter.
"Are you ok?" A boy asked. He had brown hair and was wearing some sport kit. He had some gloves on but I didn't know why. He helped me up and watched as I brushed myself down.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I laughed and quickly flicked my hair out of my eyes. "You don't have a brush on you by any chance, do you?" I sarcastically stated, knowing a boy like that wouldn't carry a brush. Well any boy wouldn't carry a brush.
"No, sorry." That was when I noticed that everyone was staring.
"All of your pack is looking at us, is there a reason?"
Before the boy could answer, Bruno appeared. "Toni, what happened? Are you ok?"
"Shut it, Bruno. What mum doesn't know, mum can't kill you for. Now give me my hat, at least it will cover the mess of my hair." I but my hat on backwards and then grabbed my board.
"Is your board ok?" Bruno asked
"Yep, this baby has gone through much worse."
"Sorry, just wondering, are you two going out?" The stranger asked.
I burst out laughing. "No, no. Bruno is my brother from another mother. Anyway, I think we should be going. Bye."
Bruno and I left the stranger but I couldn't help but have him on my mind. We spent around an hour out and about the pack before we went back. Tonight there was a ball for all the packs and Roxy was doing my hair and make-up so she would want me back with hours to go.
"See you tonight, Bruno." I waved him off and then went in to the cottage.
When I went in to the living room, I was faced with Josh and Roxy kissing on the sofa. As soon as I walked in, I walked straight out and into my room. Out of my suitcase, I pulled out my outfit for tonight. It was a two piece with a beaded top and a white skirt (see top). I didn't often wear girly stuff so I was compromised with some white high block heeled trainers. Roxy soon came in to get my make-up and hair ready.
An hour later, I looked at my reflection in my mirror and didn't recognise myself. Roxy had given me some subtle make-up and had curled and pinned my hair up.
"If it wasn't for the trainers, you would look like a princess." She sighed looking at what she called 'her masterpiece'. Really, it was just my face.
"Hey the trainers add to my style and you said you liked them."
"Correction, I said I liked the heel."
Before I could comment back, there was a knock at my door. Josh came in and had to take a second glance.
"Is that really you under there, Toni?"
"Do you really want to be put in hospital, Josh?" I growled.
"Hey don't be like that."
"Sorry, but I have beta blood and you know that I can take both my brothers on in a fight."
"AND we don't want any fights here." Roxy interjected.
"Right, Rox are you going to get ready because you don't want to be late, do you?" Josh asked to which Roxy nodded and left my room to go to hers.
I followed Josh downstairs and took in his outfit. He was in a black tuxedo and actually looked nice for a change. I had known Josh longer than Roxy and sometimes got on with him better than I did with her. I think that is because Josh had very similar tastes to me as I was a tomboy. Roxy, however, was a massive girly girl.
"I should send a picture of you to the lads that we used to box with. They wouldn't believe it was you."
"Oh god, imagine if Andrew saw me in this. I swear he used to have a crush on me."
"He told me he thought that you could be his mate."
"WHAT?! When did he say that?" I spluttered, utterly disgusted. Andrew was the kind of guy I wanted to stay away from, not become mates with him.
"In the boxing ring. I had just hit him and while I had him pinned, he told me."
"This was what, five years ago? Why didn't you tell me?"
"It was right after we had started going out."
"Oh." I looked down. I said I had known Josh a longer than Roxy. Well yeah. When I first got to know Roxy, I had been going out with Josh for about a year. I was the one who introduced the two of them together. Maybe if I hadn't, I would still be going out with Josh.
Suddenly, I looked up to see Roxy in a red floor length dress. Josh looked up at her in awe and I knew then that Josh was made for Roxy and I loved them both as my best friends; the only people I need.
"Right," I clapped, "let's go!"
