~Toni

Waking up, I smiled as I felt Max's hand wrapped around my waist. Looking at the clock, I saw it was only half three in the morning. Why I woke up at that time, I didn't know. I just laid there, staring at the ceiling for a while before deciding to go and get a drink from the kitchen. Downstairs, I stood by the window but suddenly turned behind me when I heard a noise. Turning behind me, I saw Ruby and smiled.

"You made me jump." I smacked her on the arm.

"Sorry. Are you okay? Why are you awake?"

"It's fine. I'm okay. I don't know." I smiled answering her question. Ruby then went and got a drink.

"Is it true that the rogue female downstairs is one of our own?"

"Ruby-" I started.

"No, don't say anything. I just want to know why she wouldn't want to rejoin the pack."

"Where did you hear this from?"

"People are talking. Some heard the little girl at the meeting."

"I'm going back to bed. Goodnight, Ruby." I sighed leaving the kitchen.

"Don't ignore me, Toni." I heard her say harshly back as she watched me climb the stairs again.

Going back into the bedroom, I climbed back into bed, snuggling into Max's arms once again. Slowly, I let sleep take over once again.

***********

"Max, we have been up for half an hour and you are already in the office. Come on, relax a bit." I sigh , sitting in the office also. As soon as we got up, he got dressed and went to the office. I followed, still in my pyjamas, because I couldn't be bothered.

"I need to think, Toni. If that girl down in the dungeons was my friend, could I bring myself to order her death?"

"I understand. But we have to think about what is happening. She was a rogue that attacked our pack. When offered redemption or death, she chose death. Can we go back on that?"

"I really don't know." He groaned putting his head in his hands.

"Go down and see her again. Talk to her. That is all I can offer." I say putting my feet up on the desk.

"Will you be fine while I am down there with her?"

"No, while you are gone, I will find a new mate, go rogue with them, raise our child with a total stranger and then drop down dead all because you went to talk to someone for a bit. Of course I will be fine." I smirked. He leaned down and kissed me before leaving. Sighing, I went up to our room and got dressed in my ripped jeans and one of Max's jumpers. I rolled up the sleeves and then chucked my hair up into a messy bun.

As I went downstairs, I ran into Josh and Roxy.

"Hey, guys. Where you off to?" I smiled.

"We were actually looking for you. We haven't hung out in a while and we wanted to know if you wanted to hang with us for a bit before training and everything tonight." Josh said.

"Of course!" I looped my arms through Josh and Roxy's and we went out into the forest.

Josh decided that we should go down to the lake about a ten minute walk from the house. I hadn't yet been there but Josh and Roxy had told me it was beautiful. Brushing back some branches, I gasped in awe as I saw the lake in front of me. The water glistened in the autumn sun. Pack members were swimming and messing about in the water, some were on boats, some were hanging on the tiny island in the middle. Flowers of all colours surrounded the water edge and everyone was smiling.
