Meanwhile, Beth and Anna were becoming suspicious over their friend's evasive replies and distance. Beth devised a daring plan, which she repeated to Anna.
"I think we should go to her house and watch her to see what she does," proposed Beth. "You mean...spy on her?" Anna squeaked. "Come on, Anna!" Beth encouraged. Eventually, Anna agreed to Beth's plan, and together they headed over to Katy's house.
When they got there, they concealed themselves among some giant ferns.
Katy was lying on her bed, examining something shiny in her hand. They couldn't see what it was, but Katy appeared to hate it. Suddenly, she stood up on her bed, and reached up, moving a ceiling tile.
Beth and Anna looked at each other in awe, even more so when Katy, still clutching the shiny thing, climbed up through the open tile. Thinking there were no windows in the attic, Beth and Anna went back to Beth's house, discussing the strange occurrences all the way there.
Meanwhile, having no idea she was being watched, Katy was lounging on her bed, examining her inhaler. She really didn't like it.
The color was a terrible choice, but it was not the color that bothered Katy. What bothered her was being different. None of the other girls had to use inhalers. Katy felt out of place and edgy. She wondered if she was going to hate her disease for the rest of her life. It was a satisfying thought.
