Turning, I look at Ink. A smile spreads across my face as I motion for him to follow. He laughs and shakes his head, doing as I say. We begin racing through the village, dodging the fellow humans and monsters that run about, getting their daily business. Ink keeps up with me as we head towards the woods. My sandaled feet pat against the ground as I run up to the entrance. A warm breeze blew at me, messing up my long brown hair.
"What are you doing, Anna?" Ink says, bending over to catch his breath.
"I'm going to see Error. And you're coming with me," I say, flicking his head. His face goes paler than normal as he shakes his head, trying to grab me by the hem of my skirt. Tilting my head, I help him stand up straight. "What? Don't you want to see how he's doing?" I say, looking at him. He hesitates.
"He asked us to stay away," he murmurs.
"And that's why we should go see him. Look, I even brought food," I say, holding up my basket. Ink looks away, a pained look crossing his face. Suddenly, I realize. "You don't want to see him," I whisper, eyes widen. Ink looks up at me with wide eyes as I step back. "But you two are best friends, brothers! How could you not be worried about him?!" I yell, throwing my arms out.
"It's not that! I just think that you might be better doing something else! Come on, let's go get some butter and bread," he says, grabbing my arm. Angrily, I rip it from his grasp. He gives me a sad look as tears begin to brim at my eyes. How could he nod miss him? It's been three weeks! Turning, I run into the forest. "Anna! No!" he yells, his voice fading as I continue to run. My heart pounds along with my feet as I get as far from him as I can. That isn't my Ink. My Ink loves his brother. He would do anything for him. As I slow down, tears mix with sweat as they dribble down my cheeks.
"A-Anna? Wh-What are you doing h-here?" Error says, walking out of the darkness. As I look up at him, I hold back a gasp. His skin is slowly turning black as night. It's worse than when he left. Quickly, I smile warmly at him. He walks over, wiping the tears from my face. His eyes are caring and inviting.
"I brought lunch," I say, holding out my basket. He looks down, then back up at me. He seems shocked. Making my way past him, I spot a smooth area in front of the opening to a cave. The rocks cast a shadow over it. Smiling, I pull out the blanket and lay it down.
"N-No, why a-are you h-e-here and not with Ink?" Error says. Looking down, I sigh. The sandwiches are slightly squished, but they'll have to do. Grabbing the juice, I set it out. Our eyes meet and he sighs, walking over and sitting down on the blanket. "Let me guess, he didn't want to see me," Error says, rubbing the back of his head.
"No! Well, yes, but he just wants you to have space!" I say.
"Yeah, away from him," he murmurs, crossing his arms and looking away.
"Well, you know what?! I don't care! We are going to have a lovely lunch and there is nothing neither of you can do to ruin it!" I yell, throwing my arms out. Error looks at me with wide eyes, taken back by my outburst. Sighing, I put my arms down and look away. "I just want it to be like old times. Before all this magic hullabaloo," I murmur. Error leans forward, grabbing my chin. He pulls my face to look at him.
"It will. I promise," he says, looking me in the eye. A smile crawls it's way onto my face as I tackle him with a hug. He gasps, laughing as I kiss his cheek. His blue eye meets mine as we smile at each other. "Wanna see something cool?" he says. Jumping up, I nod eagerly. He chuckles and stands up. "Alright, don't get too close," he says, shaking his finger at me. Nodding, I clap my hands a couple of times. Error closes his eyes and shoots his arms out, wires springing from them. I watch with wide eyes as they twist around the trees and rocks with precision.
"Wah! Whoa!" I gasp as they wrap around me, lifting me up.
"Anna!" Ink yells in the distance. Looking over, my eyes widen as I notice him flying towards me. Since when could he fly? Error looks at him, eyes wide. He begins to lower me, only stop. His hands fly to his head as screams. His wires disappear, causing me to start falling thirty feet. He drops to the ground and my eyes follow him.
"Error!" I yell as Ink flies in, catching me. The splotches of black on his skin start to grow. Heart beating fast, I reach out to him. Ink speeds up, trying to get away from him. "Take me back!" I scream, fighting against Ink. He looks at me with angry eyes.
"He almost killed you!" he yells.
"At least he's trying to get better!" I yell, kicking Ink in the face. His hands slip as I start falling. My eyes widen as I realize just what I did. A scream builds up in me as my arms and legs flail. Closing my eyes, I wait for impact. But it doesn't come. Slowly, I opening my eyes. Ink has his scarf wrapped around my body, along with Error's cords supporting me. Error struggles to keep his glitching under control. They lower me to the ground, running towards me.
"Are you ok?!" Error yells.
"Did you get hurt?!" Ink shouts.
"Guys!" I say, looking at both of them. They run to my side, looking me up and down. They wait for me to continue eagerly. "That was AMAZING! It just goes to show how much you two love each other! I mean, wow! The way you swooped in to save me, the both of you! Thank you!" I say, wrapping my arm around their necks and pulling them to me. They both let out an exasperated sigh, only to look at each other.
"Your face when you saw her falling," Error says, bursting into laughter.
"Oh yeah! How about when you totally looked up her skirt?!" Ink retorts.
"Did not!" Error says, his face turning red.
"Oh, sure you didn't!" Ink says. My face begins to to flush as Ink pushes Error's arm. "That was totally deliberate, dude! I mean, cheap shot if I've seen one!" Ink laughs. "If you want to kiss her, just ask!" Ink says, laughing with tears brimming at his eyes. Error's face gets even redder as he looks at me. My eyes are wide as Ink slowly stops laughing.
"I'm gonna go," I say, turning on my heels.
"No, wait! I'm sorry! What about the food?" Error calls to me as I walk away.
"It's fine, you guys have much more to talk about anyways!" I say, running away.
