Day Seven | Chapter 02: Frothing Despair | To Survive Daily Life
"Good Morning, everyone! It is now 7 AM and Night-Time is officially over! Let's give it our best to have fun today, alright!?"
Amber didn't move once the alarm went off. Instead, she remained curled up under her blankets.
Her whole body felt heavy, whether with exhaustion or the comfort of the bed, Amber didn't know or really care.
After some time passed, Amber fell in and out of sleep. The thought of getting up occurred to her several times during that period but getting up seemed to be far to difficult.
Only when someone started knocking on Amber's door did she get up.
Amber slowly rolled out of bed as the knocking grew more rapid.
"I'm up, I'm up." Amber called, forgetting for a moment that the room was soundproof and no one could hear her.
She slowly made her way across the room before opening the door.
Sub and Mango were there, both looking surprised at Amber's sudden appearance.
"What is it?" Amber groaned, rather annoyed by the disturbance.
"We were really worried about you. You never came to breakfast so.."
It didn't take long for Amber's groggy brain to pick up on what Mango's words were implying.
Guess everyone wasn't as confident in each other as I thought..
"Sorry, didn't mean to worry you." Amber answered, stretching her arms out as she yawned. "I'll be out in a minute, okay?"
"Alright. We'll let the others know you're okay." Sub turned and slowly walked away, Mango following suit.
Amber grumbled under her breath as she slowly changed into new clothes before heading to the Mess Hall.
The other thirteen attendees were there when Amber arrived, looking greatly relieved at the sight of her.
"We were worried when you didn't show up for breakfast. What were you doing?"
"Sleeping in. Sorry to worry you." Amber answered as she grabbed a plate and began to eat her breakfast.
"Well, guess that's understandable. Now that we all know you're okay, I'm going to look through the library again." Seto got up and smoothed out his cloak. But before he could approach the Mess Hall doors, a figure appeared, cross legged on the table nearest to the sorcerer. Unlike usual, Seto flinched in response and Amber seemed to finally notice the tired look in his eyes. Amber leaped to her feet at the sight of their monochrome captor.
"Now, now Seto! I thought you were through with your days as a shut in!" The cheery, stomach-twisting voice said teasingly, clearly annoying the purple cloaked man who expressed his aggravation in the small strings of purple mana flowing between his gloved fingers and his narrowed amber eyes.
"You know, you all really must be stupid to think I'd leave valuable information just laying around for you to get you hope-y hands on!" MonoMachine taunted, spinning their hat in with an amused and smug expression on their face.
"Also, you guys must be super bored with nothing to do, and as much as I would love to watch the slow burn of despair as you make a mess of my library, it's just too boring and I'm not nearly as patient as purple-pants over here." MonoMachine jabbed their thumb in Seto's direction.
"So, I decided to introduce a new motive! Of course, secrets are boring and way to easy. Our video motive was sooo predictable. I don't wanna do much as blackmail you as I want to give you a push in the right direction! So, combine that with your frustration about your lack of knowledge with your current situation and your fruitless hunt for information and you get a motive that I guarantee no one would have thought of!" MonoMachine made a grand sweeping gesture with their hat.
