"MONSTER!", the woman shrieks again, just as I barrel into her, causing both of us to fall on the ground.
"Gemma!", a man's voice shouts from behind her. "Gemma!"
I wrestle my way on top of her, squeezing my hands around her windpipe, grinning wickedly at the power resting at my fingertips as the woman struggles to breathe.
This pleasure only lasts for a moment however, because strong arms pull me off of Gemma.
I struggle against Jonathan's grip, growling as a brown haired young man helps the woman back to her feet.
"I am so sorry", he apologizes. "She's schizophrenic. She sees people as monsters sometimes."
"It's fine", my father assures him, wrapping me up in a big bear hug as I keep fighting him. "Theresa just gets out of hand when this happens. I'm the one who should be sorry."
The man nods and nuzzles his nose into Gemma's neck, whispering something in her ear.
Immediately, she calms down, tilting her head up to give him a quick kiss.
"Baby, you're okay", Jonathon says to me. "She wasn't going to hurt me, okay?"
"Dont care", I hiss through clenched teeth. "Die, bitch!"
Gemma sticks out her tongue before smiling.
Carefully, my father strokes my hair, making it impossible for me to be angry, my breathing slowing down until my body relaxes.
"Good girl." He kisses my cheek before gently forcing me to sit back down on the couch, watching me lay my head down on the furniture arm. After a moment, Gemma struggles out of the man's grip, trotting over to join me.
"Jonathon Moore", my father introduces himself, holding out his hand to the stranger. "And you are?"
"Noah", he says, shaking it. "Noah Rahsen."
"Well it's nice to meet you."
I sigh and tune them out, turning my head to narrow my eyes at Gemma.
"Stay away from my dad", I hiss. "Or next time, he won't be able to stop me from crushing your windpipe."
"Tell your dad to change back into a human", she snaps back. "So I won't have to kill the monster within."
I open my mouth to respond, but a flash of blue and white stops me, Morona collapsing on the floor by my feet.
"I found him", she whispers. "I found out where they're keeping him."
In spite of my bad mood, I grin, my eyes flicking back to where Noah and Jonathon are talking.
"If we hurry", the woman says. "We can get rid of him before my mother comes."
"Uh...." Gemma looks awkward. "What are we doing?"
The corner of my lip lifts up into a smirk as I answer in a low voice.
"We are going to feed the addiction. Kill a monster, as you might think."
Gemma blinks twice at Noah, then looks back at us.
"Well?" Morona shivers with excitement, her fingers twitching in her lap as she meets the woman's gaze evenly. "Are you in or out?"
"We are going to get in so much trouble", she says slowly. "I'm in."
"What about them?", I ask, nodding my head at the two men, deep in discussion, all the way at the opposite end of the room, standing right beside the door.
"Look behind you", Morona chuckles. "There are two doors."
"Of course there are", I sigh. "It's an insane asylum."
"Let's just go", she says excitedly. "Before the men see what were up to."
Slowly, the three of us rise to our feet, inching behind the couch, peeking up to check that Noah and Jonathon are still deep in conversation before quietly padding to the open door.
We run down the hallway, Morona leading the way as adrenaline fills my bloodstream, making me laugh at the urge to cause destruction.
"He's in here", she whispers, sliding to a stop outside a closed door. "And last time I checked, alone."
"What exactly are we doing?"
I look over at Gemma. "What do you think we're doing? Going to have cupcakes? We're making art. And it's important."
"Yeah, that's so descriptive." The woman rolls her eyes, punching me in the arm.
"Let me put it this way." Morona grins. "We're making this place better by getting rid of someone who contaminates the place we have to call home. Kapeesh?"
"We're kill-?!"
"Shut up", the woman hisses, covering Gemma's mouth with one hand.
As I slowly turn the doorknob, an unfamiliar flicker of doubt washes over me.
My father would not want me to do this.
