Richard paused at the end of the famous Helix bridge and turned to look at the bridge with the Marina Center as the backdrop. This has been one of his favorite places to visit specially at night when he finds that he still has energy to burn after a solid 10 hours at the office. Or if he just like to think through an idea or think about...... just anything. He would take the MRT to Promenade station and walk towards Marina Bay Sands, then to the bridge.
Just like tonight, he would stand here at the end and watch as people, couples, families, teens, elderly pose at the strategic locations that provide stunning views of the skyline. Here, where he feels that technology and modern architecture try to mimic life since the two helix tubes are patterned after the DNA structure.
How he wished there could be something of this architectural marvel, along with the whole Marina complex, in his home country.
Richard has been working in Singapore for more than two months now. He had been to all the sights the most modern country in this side of Asia could offer. And yet, he's always drawn to this place.

How he also wished that he could bring mamang and Ryzza here. Siguro sa bakasyon ni Ryzza. Kailangan pa nilang asikasuhin passports nila. Speaking of mamang and Ryzza, madalas pa rin silang nagtatanong kung nagkausap na sila ni Maine. Hoping pa rin sila. Hindi niya kinuwento kay mamang ang buong detalye, dahil hindi rin naman niya alam ang sa kunwaring kasal. Pero dahil hindi niya maitago ang galit at lungkot sa mata, alam niyang naiintindihan siya ng nanay niya.
The mere mention of Maine's name still brings pain but it has been decreasing gradually or his heart is just getting numbed by the day.
Flashback to two months ago when he almost backed out of the opportunity of working here. Because of a slip of a girl who threw his pride to his face. Isang gabi lang naman siyang nagpakalasing, nagpakalango sa alak pag-uwi niya sa Zambales. Kinabukasan sana ang flight niya pero wala na siyang balak tumuloy.
Tandang-tanda niya paggising niya nung sumunod na umaga, masakit ang ulo dahil sa hang-over. Nagulat siya nang may isang case ng beer na nasa harap niya at ang nanay niya, tahimik na naglapag ng pulutan sa mesa.
Malumanay nagsalita si mamang. "Sige lang anak, ako bumili niyan. Dito lang ako, panonoorin kita habang sinisira mo buhay mo." Sapat na yon para magising siya at ayusin ang sarili niya at ituloy ang flight.
Muntik niyang makalimutan kung bakit tinanggap niya 'tong trabahong 'to.Muntik mawala sa isip nya na ang laki ng tulong at sakripisyo ng mga kaibigan niya para matanggap lang siya dito. Muntik niyang makalimutan na isang rason kaya siya lumayo ay para sa kaligtasan ng pamilya niya. At ngayon mas meron siyang dahilan, meron siyang gustong patunayan.
