Chapter 21

Tisent is similar to what my home was before my father came and destroyed it. The sunsets warm and the rains came often. The whole place was nearly an exact copy of my home, except that instead of everyone training to fight each day they are attending schools to teach them about the world and all that it contains. Sitting in to listen to some of the teachings I heard tales from all throughout time that told of many different wars and about how humans came into contact with elves only twenty years ago. The elves quickly settled into the humans and hid amongst them in hopes that my father wouldn't find them. Tisent was one of the first kingdoms my father conquered and also the one he kept the least watch over. When the elves came to Tisent the humans took them in and sheltered them. The elves shared a lot of their knowledge and the leader of the kingdom believed that everybody should know about the past and all that happened. So the kingdom slowly built itself upon knowledge, the king of course did take notice to the elves presence and sent low elves to siege the kingdom and destroy all the knowledge they spread, but the people fought back with long lost fighting styles and destroyed all attempts to take the kingdoms knowledge from them. So the king eventually gave up on Tisent and saw them as no threat to him. Obviously he didn't realize I would come around and take Tisent into my army. With the knowledge the people of Tisent possess they could vastly increase the strength of my army just by educating the people. With an army who is entirely educated I could have what used to be the ingenuity of a general in every soldier. That would vastly improve the chances of the armies survival, and even limit the amount of casualties that would come during the war, but all of that was only an after thought to what was actually running through my mind.

The tales that the people of Tisent spoke of were tales of two men who possessed stones that held great power. The two men were both elven born, and they were both brothers. The two of them happened across magical stones that once they touched the stones they melded into their skin and became a part of them. The brothers learned many things about the stones and found that their two stones were different, yet the same in their own way. One stone was gray and held the power of healing, it was deemed the "Preservers stone", while the other was purple and was capable of conjuring up amazing shields that were entirely impregnable, this stone was deemed the "Protectors stone". Though the brothers loved each other, a hunger for power grew in each of their hearts. Both wanted to become the strongest by possessing both stones, but the only way to do that is to kill the other so that the stone separates from the previous possessor's soul. So the brother holding the protectors stone, Aaron, went to his brothers bedside and poisoned him in his sleep. Then he waited for his brother to slowly succumb to the poison that he had given him, but that never happened. The Preservers stone held too much healing power to kill him from a simple poison. Awakening with rage inside his heart the poisoned brother, Egrik, sought to get vengeance upon his brother, but he didn't go directly at the brother for he knew that the protectors stone wouldn't be a simple thing to get by if he openly fought his brother. So he spent years searching and he eventually found black magic. The dark rituals that required to use the magic tainted the skin of the brother till his skin turned a deep purple. When Aaron found out about his brothers discovery of dark magic he sought to find a way to destroy the magic so that he would have a chance to fight his brother. Eventually he discovered holy magic, a magic that depended on a deeper connection with the natural world. So he meditated in a spring that rested below the fabled great tree. The tree was said to be blessed with the power of all that resided within nature. Within his meditation he became enlightened which gave him power over the natural elements of the world, this also painted his skin a gentle green. It also gave his skin a deep inner glow that wrapped throughout his skin and gave it a warm green glow. This would give his magic a conduit to focus through so that the raw energy of nature could have a way to travel through his body and be controlled. Soon the people were split amongst the brothers who sought others to help him fight against his brother. Eventually all the people ended up choosing a side amongst the brothers, the followers learned the magic of the brother they sided with and the wars began. These wars raged so long that the fights seemed to never end. The wars eventually were fought during the night because the "Low elves", as the followers deemed themselves, were so corrupted by their dark magic that the sunlight was hard to stay in for a prolonged amount of time. In the dark the "High elves" could only use magic that came from the direct area around them, and since most beings created a type of magic in their own right the low elves began to desecrate the lands where the wars took place. This resulted in the lands now known as the drylands to become the desolate land it now is. The wars lasted for many years, until the brothers both came to their death. The two sides had been split for so many years that with their leaders death they couldn't go back to how they once used to be. The low elves continued their dark pilgrimage in the solitude of the forever mountains and took refuge in the deep caverns the mountains held. The high elves continued their path of enlightenment and lived amongst the magical beings within nature. Throughout the wars the human race slowly grew, completely oblivious to the elven race that existed so near them. Humans grew entirely disconnected to magic since the elven kind never taught them how to use magic, and now that the elves are around the humans, humans still fail to understand the connections necessary to use any sort of magic. The people of Tisent still try their hardest to find a way for humans to wield the magic of the high elves, but the knowledge required to teach was known only to the elders, who were killed when my father sought out the high elves.
